Oximeter???

My Mom wants to track her O2 levels while she sleeps....what Oximeter do you recommend? Price?
I believe she will be going into the sleep lab next week for her sleep study.

I don't use one so I can't vouch for one over another.
As long as it will record overnight and you can use software, you will be good.

SleepyHead software is compatible with the CMS 50 oximeters. Just make sure it will record overnight.
Some use disposable batteries. Some use rechargeable batteries.

Several members here use them and can offer the pros and cons of one model over another.

Thanks Pugys....I think my Mom has resigned that she has to make this work. Tomorrow I'm taking her to try out masks and check out the sleep lab ahead of her overnight. I'm going to stay with her in the next room....should be interesting

We have the CMS 50 E which we got for about $92 on Amazon. My husband took the printout of his first night on it to his doctor and was immediately scheduled for a sleep study. That was worth the price right there! The software that came with it is easy to install and use on our Windows 7 PC. I find it most comfortable on my ring finger and tape it on so that it doesn't come loose.

It is premature to buy an oximeter since she already has a sleep study scheduled.

Let her do the sleep study, get a diagnosis, and get a therapy prescribed before making any decision to buy an oximeter.

As you may already know, a CPAP with efficacy software is one of the critical things that must be obtained (assuming she has sleep apnea).

If there are complicating issues an oximetry purchase can be considered after completing the steps above.

My Mom has already been told she has SA. She is on O2 24/7 right now. We are doing the sleep lab to make sure that O2 levels will be ok on CPAP or if she will need to be on O2 while on the machine. We are hoping that she will only need 02 during the day and that her levels will be fine at night using the CPAP machine. When we were at the Sleep Doc last week, with her 02 on she was at 92% so that concerns her. She's just want to track her levels more closely since she has been having some problems and $90 isn't going to be a waste to her. She will probably make my Dad wear it one night...next he will be in the sleep lab

In your mom's situation I don't think it will be a waste of money either. Especially since you already know she needs O2 in daytime also. If nothing else it will be great peace of mind.

OK, it makes a difference if she has a pulmonary problem. When she was prescribed O2, what was the diagnosis?

my advice, can't hurt. my sleep specialist told me they'd use them in nursing homes for, if not complete sleep studies, an early indicator. I have a few reletives that would refuse to put on my CPAP and FFM (or do a sleep study) , and I wont let my xPAP go for a night for anything, and they are (or will be <grin>) comfotable enough to slip one of these on. if it shows low O2's then I might be able to convince them to go for the study.

I got the CMS 50E on ebay for around $85 including software & cable/charger.

Yes, that price ($160) is too high. I listed the wrong link and will edit it out of my post.

Actually can't remember now which supplier I used but I did pay more that $95 because it was about three years ago and the prices have since come down.

I've been told the cable is custom, and a standard USB will fit the connector, but won't work. Guard your cable..

Definately get the wrist model(CMS 50F). It's much more comfortable and more convenient if she wants to monitor it during the day.
