Hi everyone. I'm so glad I happened upon this site. I was recently diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea after I had what was initially thought of as a mild stroke. I've had my fair share of test done these past few weeks, and was happy that the diagnosis was something as simple as sleep apnea.
My CPAP machine arrived today (it's called a REMstar bi-level) , and I am so anxious to use it, but I have a terrible cold right now. The home health guy told me that I might not be able to use it till my cold clears up.
I'd sure appreciate any advice anyone can give to a new CPAP user.
Or just to have some folks who can relate with what I am going through.
Thanks

Welcome aboard. You will learn a lot here. The members are supportive and always willing to help.

Remember, there are no dumb questions. In addition, you can discover a lot at the CPAP FAQ link above (it's the red question mark.)

Something as simple as sleep apnea, I hope it is for you many have to struggle to get the right solution, but I know what you meant, as hard as it can be reliefe can be had.

You know, sometimes my choice of words is not the best. By no means do I consider sleep apnea "simple". I was just happy to find out that I had not actually had a stroke and now the doctors can treat a known medical issue, and me not just walking around in a fog all the time wondering if I will make it to the next day or not. Simple, no- Scarey, yes!

k.c.

Welcome to the forum. It's a wonderful place to find out information, get questions answered, and to communicate with those who know what you are going through and understand.

Congrats on getting your machine. Now if you got a nasal mask or pillows, as long as one nostril is open you can get relief. Be sure to use a heated humidifier. I found when I had a horrid cold that if I had the humidifier up to 3 or even 4 it helped to open up my nasal passages.

Let us know how it goes.

Melinda
