How to open RAR files?
How to open RAR files?
I have downloaded a program that is zipped using RAR. I need a free program (if there is one) to open and unzip.
Most of what I found involved pay or TrialPlay thing. I don't really want to do that.
Anyone know of a plain ordinary RAR unzipper?
My computer is Win7 64 bit. I can't seem to find anything on it to unzip RAR files. I get no prompt to unzip when I right click on file.
I need to do this because I may have found a source for machine software that F & P Icon users can use. I want to test it first.

Re: How to open RAR files?
I second what Mars suggest and the best part is it is free.
WinRAR is great, but you have to pay to use it. If all you need is to open RAR files and not create them 7Zip is perfect.

I have never had to pay for winRAR. But nonetheless, 7zip works just as well too.Perrybucsdad wrote:I second what Mars suggest and the best part is it is free.

Re: How to open RAR files?
Thanks,
ended up getting WinRAR free from file hippo but still got errors with attempts to open the RAR files
7 zip gave me repeated CRC error and wouldn't unzip the RAR files. Got 8% and failed
And yes, with all attempts I did choose the 64 bit versions.
So right now I removed all attempts except WinRAR from file hippo since it did seem to install properly and now getting a fresh download of the RAR files but this time chose open with Win RAR instead of save to download folder in attempt to get the program installed. Slow internet connection.. this is going to take a while.
Will report back.

Pugsy or rather "the intrepid Pugsy"...
Seems I've had those issues with the free WinRAR.
I believe it's merely a trial verson with limitations put on it.
Got your new machine? Working good?

Ah crap, trial version doesn't do what I want? Why have a trial version to test? Jeezzz. I have over an hour to go with this attempt. I will wait it out and then see what to do.jamiswolf wrote:Seems I've had those issues with the free WinRAR.

This is for F & P Icon software and not a torrents nasty download site. I want so much to get this to work.
Anyone want to PM me for link to the RAR files to see if they can get the damn thing to open?
Since this is not simple, we are going to need step by step instructions for F & P Icon users IF we can get it to work.
My new machine and I are getting along. More on it later. For those who don't know. I got a PR S1 BiPap Auto. Learning experience for me. So far haven't duplicated the miracle but outside factors have messed with my sleep....
But at least I seem to have the basics understood about the new machine.

Re: How to open RAR files?
Failure after all that time. Same message as before when I tried using WinRar to extract the downloaded files.
This attempt was with choosing to open and run from download site as opposed to saving to download folder an attempting to open from there. Run as administrator doesn't help either.
Message I got from WinRAr that I got at filehippol.com.
! C:\Users\Brenda\AppData\Local\Temp\FPSoftwarev1.1.rar: Unexpected end of archive
Is this because it is a trial version? I don't want to pay obviously... I am a tightwad. Especially since this is just to see if I can get the darn software to work. I have no use for it but a lot of Icon users would.

Re: How to open RAR files?
I found this free program named 7ZIP.
CNET says it's a good program http://download.cnet.com/7-Zip/3000-225 ... 45185.html
You can give it a try.

Re: How to open RAR files?
I have nearly pulled out all my hair.
Finally got the files unzipped and program installed. To open one must enter proper Log in ID and password
which is
Admin
password
but then it has a box about "server". Readmetext doesn't explain this part mainly because it is geared to someone having an install disc. When I try to proceed it tells me server is not available try later.
I suspect it is another feature that needs some sort of configuration but I have no idea what.
Encore Pro is a walk in the park compared to this program. I officially give up. It has given me a massive headache and I don't see it changing.
Any F & P Icon users who want to try to sort this all out..send me a private message and I will share what I have available but beyond that I simply lack the expertise to go further. It isn't a torrents site and the files themselves don't appear to have any bad bugs in them..or at least my AVG said they were clean.

Re: How to open RAR files?
I have sorted through the install issues for InfoSmart software.
I can get it installed and working to the point where one chooses the 30 day trial or enter the code that a person can request from F & P for permanent use. I think I read where one just needs to email a request for permanent use code.
Unsure what happens after 30 day trial choice.. I am assuming some method of adding permanent use code is there also.
While F & P no longer allows general sales of InfoSmart in the US it is available for sale with a doctors prescription outside the US so I suppose one just says they have the prescription and the software and need the code.
F & P Icon users would need to investigate that part of it on their own.
Send me a PM if anyone wants the particulars that I have sorted through.
The install went smoothly once I chose the right application file to start with. There are 3 application .exe files in the folder. Choose the wrong one first and it won't work properly. That was the problem I was having.
