I have been using my first CPAP machine for the past eight months. My doctor is talking about changing me to an autoPAP machine.
My question is will the DME or my insurance company (an HMO) want me to return my current machine? What have others experienced with machine changes.

PJ,
It depends on what your insurance coverage is. For me, I have a 10 month rental period before the machine is mine. During that time I can change machines without restarting my rental period. For instance, I had a CPAP machine for 2 months and then my doctor prescribed an APAP.
Now if I had been done with my rental period and the machine was mine, I would be stuck with it. Insurance only ok's a new machine after so many years. You will want to contact your insurance company to find out.
