can someone please help
had my sleep study results explained to me in simple terms from my doctor of 16 years the results were i had SEVERE sleep apnea ,he said that 265 minutes into the test i had 68 episodes of apnea ,which he says i stopped breathing, average lenght of apnea was 23 secounds, longest was 77 secounds,i am a little over weight and i asked him if i lost weight if that would lesson the chances of me staying on a cpap machine and he said no but it would not hurt to lose some anyway(L.O.L) So am im just being paraniod or should i just accept the fact that i have this problem, and are these indeed severe figures, there were more specifications of the test but he said that they were all high, should i have another test done or just go on with the cpap
Bauercrew,
Ya might as well join the rest of us hoseheads.
OSA has a lot of adverse effects on your health, so don't put off the inevitable. The sooner you get started, the better you'll feel.
Best wishes,

Bauercrew,
I am certainly no expert. I have been on cpap for 5 days but I can tell you that it is already the best thing I ever did. I noticed today that my husband is ready for our regular weekend nap and I am rearing to go. I have had more energy this week than I have had in 10 years. I would say go with the cpap but that is just my opinion. I am also a firm believer in going with what you think is best for you. No one knows your body better than you do. I hope I could help.

Well, Bauercrew, you can refuse to persue CPAP therapy and try to loose weight, hoping that your OSA will self-correct. Or you can choose to accept the information and take steps to aim at improving your health and well being in the here and now! Weight loss certainly can help any person in a variety of ways, though it is not always a fix-it for OSA. Whether or not you decide to lose weight, should not stop you from getting help for the OSA night now! CPAP therapy can provide your body and brain the restfull sleep that it must have in order to function normally. Not to mention, the oxygen deprivation that the OSA is causing you nightly has to be playing havoc with your internal organs! Whatever you decide, don't let how you feel presently fool you into thinking that addressing the OSA is not crucial at this point in time. You can never be sure of the internal damage that may be occuring with OSA! One thing for sure, OSA does not improve without some type of intervention! Good luck on your choices!

I'm gonna give you a contrary opinion, Bauercrew. If you don't think you need it, don't do it. You'll probably just die in your sleep anyway, maybe even while you're driving, but it'll be quicker that way.
I've been needing xPAP therapy for 27 years, but failed a couple of sleep lab tests so I couldn't get started until I bought some of my own diagnostic equipment to confirm the problem, but it wasn't long after that, that I did get a prescription. I knew that very first night that I'd needed it for years.
Regards,
Bill

Accept the inevitable and enter CpapLand with as much grace as possible. You are going to feel sooo much better in the long run.
Read all the hints in this forum. Read, read, read, before you buy.
Ultimately, the mask is the biggest obstacle.
Good Luck and ask questions now - before you purchase equipment.

You have to choices CPAP it up and try to keep your health and maybe repair some of the damage that had already been done. Or you can pratice holding your breath, You are already up to 77 seconds, When you get up to 3 minutes 60 times a nite, you will be able to swin in De-Nile.
Swimming in De-Nile is bad for your health.

Bauercrew, you should try cpap - I too resisted it, as I could not detect any sleep problems. But I was convinced by my doc that I would be better off in the long run, so tried it. The best thing is - it's not that hard to get used to.
We do a lot of joking around here about being funny looking and making funny noises, but the reality is that if you just get into it, you shouldn't have much trouble. If you do have problems, these folks here are a wonderful resource for help.
