How easy is it to damage a CPAP machine?

Post by archangle » Sun Aug 28, 2011 6:24 pm

Another thread got me thinking about how easy it is to damage a CPAP machine.

How many people have broken a CPAP machine by physical abuse? For instance,

Dropping or impact
Lightning
Power surge
Humidifier water into the machine
Wrong power supply
Heat or sunlight
etc.

For that matter, how many people have something abusive happen to the machine and had it survive?

Let's leave out machines that died on their own from this thread and start another if it's warranted.

I've not destroyed one yet, but... you should have done it as a mulch-selection poll so you can see actual numbers.

Yep, happened to me. I forgot to empty the tank before putting everything into the S9 carry case to take back home from travel. I tried to dry out the blower part, and even used compressed air to blow out the moisture. Didn't work. The machine worked sporadically for about 2 hours and then quit cold, never to start again. Fortunately the DME didn't ask what happened. They just confirmed it wasn't working and gave me a new one!
