ASV: was this leak a good thing?

Post by ameriken » Wed Aug 24, 2011 12:23 pm

So, last night I changed the BPM from auto to 12. I believe on auto the BPM is 10 and this just doesn't feel right for me.

I also increased my pressure settings to the original prescription of PS=5 and EPAP=7. I've been experimenting with different settings to try and get my AHI down to 5 and under, because I tend to run from 3 to 12, and <5 is rare.

Last night I had one of my better AHI's (4) , which may possibly be because of the change in BPM, but I'm going to wait a few more nights to see.

Here is my question: if you notice my LPM, I had a substantial leak between hours 4 and 5. I had events immediately prior to and immediately after the leak. However during the leak, when I would have expected an increase in events, I actually had none at all. There was no pressure change during the leak, which makes me think that I somehow nudged my mask causing the leak. My guess is the lack of events during the leak was just coincidence, but I also got to thinking that the lack of events may be telling something about my settings? Perhaps the PS or EPAP is too high?

Just curious if this is something to watch or if anyone else has experienced this.

We can't trust data in large leak time. We don't know if nothing happened or the machine threw up its hands and said it had to idea what no do which such a leak. I suspect the sensors cannot score properly (one way or the other) when such a leak is present.

Ah, you're right Brenda, I knew there was something obvious I was missing.

My Dr set my BPM backup rate to 15 on my Resmed S9 Adapt Sv. I think that's working for me. Just curious, looking at your graphs! It showed your average BPm at about 15 and I assume that's where you like to breathe. Why did you set your backup rate at 12 ? Dan

Dan, my backup rate was originally on 'auto', which was the recommended setting. On auto, the BPM is 10.

Last night, I upped it to 12 to see how I would do. I originally set it at 14 and decided to back down a bit and see how I did with it at 12. I may bring it a bit higher.
