Has anyone had success using nasal pillow masks with the Resmed VPAP Adapt SV? After trying all types of masks, for the last several years, I have used nasal pillow masks exclusively. For me, they just work better than anything else. CPAP works for me; but right at about the pressure point that it gets rid of OAs, it starts to induce CAs, Hs and weird breathing cycles. Over the years, I have gone through just about every type of CPAP machine, including early straight CPAP, BiPap, APap. Presently, I use the Swift II pillow mask with my Respironics Bipap Auto SV, with reasonable but not perfect success.
Recently, I acquired a used Adapt SV (Enhanced), to see if it might work better for my condition. Unfortunately, its "learn circuit" will not learn any nasal pillow masks. So, I used it with the Mirage SoftGel nasal mask, which the "learn circuit" does learn. The experience wasn't good. Before I start (again) trying to find a nasal or full-face mask that works for me, has anyone found a way to use pillow masks successfully with the Adapt SV?
Is there anything to the Adapt SV's "learning circuit?" Makes no sense to me. I could understand the machine needing to "learn" the resistance of the humidifier and hose. But, the resistance of the open mask should not matter, or very little; unless there are serious leaks. Once it's pressed against the face, its "resistance" consists mainly of that of the nose through which it funnels air.

I have the same machine and it has a setting for the nasal pillows. However I also use the Resmed Mirage softgel Nasal mask as it suits me better. I do have some nasal pillows but dont use them much as I find they are easily moved when changing position.

What setting does yours have for nasal pillows? Mine does not seem to have any...ozze_dollar wrote:I have the same machine and it has a setting for the nasal pillows. moresleep, if you have the older S7 based VPAP Adapt SV unit, and not the newer S9 unit, then it does NOT support nasal pillows. Click on the link below this reply to the unit that I use. If it looks like that unit, then it does NOT support nasal pillows. If that's the case, I'm sorry but you won't be able to use nasal pillows. I would like to be able to use them (though I find the extreme pressure of an ASV tends to make it near impossible to use just a nasal mask).
One reason the older unit does not support nasal pillows is that it uses that air pressure line from the mask "cuff" to sample the pressure at the mask. Nasal pillows have a small extension hose that makes it impossible for the older unit to sample the pressure at the nose.
The newer S9 units do support nasal pillows. They do not have the air pressure line to sample the pressure at the mask. Instead they check the air pressure via the larger hose.
Hope that helps.

I dont know about a setting. It simply allows me to select the mask I am using.moresleep wrote:What setting does yours have for nasal pillows? Yes, I have the older S7-based Adapt SV, not the new S9. So, no native pillows support, I guess.JohnBFisher wrote:moresleep, if you have the older S7 based VPAP Adapt SV unit, and not the newer S9 unit, then it does NOT support nasal pillows. I have moved the pressure sensor line closer to the pillows. Then, I clipped of the connector from the pressure line and inserted it through a holeI drilled in the rubber at the end of the main tubing, and pulled enough through so that when I connectged the small tube of the Swift II nasal pillows, the pressure line would extend almost to the pillows themselves. But, when I ran the "learning circuit" it still would not learn the pillows. Nonetheless, I may try them this way and see how I do.
