So I finally talked my doctor into prescribing me an APAP machine. I would really like to make sure I get the best machine possible with data capabilities. I also would like a machine that will fit into my room without making it look like a piece of hospital equipment. Please give me your thoughts.
Thanks

Re: Whats the best APAP
I would suggest consider the Respironics PR System One Auto CPAP with AFlex (look at my profile equipment)
or the ResMed S9 Autoset. https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/resme ... chine.html
Software is readily available (free) for both. Respironics software choice examples are seen here viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64906&st=0&sk=t&sd= ... re+options
ResMed Software example seen here http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/resscan_tutorial/
SleepyHead, designed by forum member is also ResMed capable but still in alphaware stage, so if not techy oriented may not be for the faint of heart.
Either of the machines above will give you excellent service. ResMed users will promote their machine and Respironics users will likely promote their machine. ResMed machines have more data available on screen without software but with the availability of multiple software choices for Respironics machines, rather a non issue now.
DeVilbiss makes a nice APAP but I personally find the software reports lacking and you have to buy the software at that.

Thanks Pugsy! I actually called my DME and asked for the s9 autoset. But, the DME told me my doctor only likes using a certain brand. Which I did not like., It looks like a fight is in store monday!

Re: Whats the best APAP
Good luck. I had one of those fights with my first choice DME who got fired. They flat out refused to supply any machine except a F & P very basic model. Had all sorts of excuses about the ResMed and Respironics brands just having too many problems, etc. I didn't even bother bringing APAP into the fight. I refused delivery of the machine they ordered without my knowledge or even bothered to speak with me about and told them I wouldn't be using their services.jobe2433 wrote:It looks like a fight is in store monday!
Stand by your guns. Get what you want. It will go a long way in how you feel about all this. Otherwise you will be what iffing..... I ended up buying my first machine off Craigslist. It was local, brand new, zero hours on it and exactly what I wanted. Cost was actually a little bit less than my copay at the time. Then I found a DME for masks and supplies who didn't care that I didn't buy my machine from them. He told me that they would have ordered the machine I wanted but the one on Craigslist just happened to pop up right when I had the titration study. He understood and was quite nice about the whole thing. My peace of mind knowing that I got what I wanted was priceless to me.

There's a better than even chance the DME is simply lying about the doctor wanting a certain brand.jobe2433 wrote:Thanks Pugsy! I actually called my DME and asked for the s9 autoset. Get your prescription on paper in your hand. See if it specifies that brand. Then go to another DME if your insurance allows it.
