Help Needed for Mask Leaks ! Please !!!

Post by ala5081 » Sun Aug 14, 2011 5:50 am

I am needing help or mostly suggestions on a mask that is less likely to leak. I got the Mirage FX from my DME and that is all my Insurance will allow for 6 months. I bought a Comfort Gel Full Face online in hopes that was the problem with no success. I now have the Confort Gel Nasal and still have the leaks. My DME measured me very accurately and I am a medium. Would changing sizes possibly help. Thanks in advance for any help and advice you can give me.

Most manufacturers allow a 30 day exchange through a DME in order to find the right mask. The DME should be willing to exchange the mask for free within the first 30 days.

Unfortunately, not every DME is willing to do this.

You can do the same thing with some online CPAP suppliers, but you have to pay shipping and an extra fee for "insurance." It costs you a little money per mask, but it's cheaper than a whole new mask. Check the online suppliers web site.

Tell us more about your leaks. Are they at any particular place? How have you tried to fix them? What is your pressure? CFLEX setting? Do you use the ramp function?

One important point is that tighter straps sometimes cause more leaks, not less.

By the way, you could replace just the flap and cushion for your ComfortGel Blue mask with a small size if you think you need a small. On the ComfortGel nasal masks, the small and medium use the same frame. You can also swap the original and blue cushions, but that won't necessarily give a better seal.

I have the padacheek mask liner and it works pretty well.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.
