Hi everyone
Hi everyone
Hi I'm new here. Just had a sleep study last week and the tech called this afternoon and said I need to be fitted for an autopap. I have been reading a few of the posts and am usually not ever on line, although I am finding some good info from all of you. I obviously need to continue to read, which I will do.This does not sound very fun to me. I was hit by a bus several years ago, pregnant with my 3rd child, have had numerous ongoing issues, but my neurologist wants me off my stomach while I sleep due to my neck problems, but I know I have apnea on my back, so we are going to try the autopap. It looks totally stupid...my kids and husband will be laughing at me, but I am determined to give it a shot.I don't even see the doc until Feb. 3rd to see what exactly is going on...until then, I will be educating myself through this forum, if my kids ever let me on here!!! LV
Welcome
Medical staff recommending AutoPAP to the patient rather than CPAP. I'm impressed! Sounds like you have a fairly up-to-date doctor there.
The good news is that with AutoPAP you're probably going to sleep and feel better and better.
Good luck and welcome aboard!

You know that's exactly how I felt too. I just found out last week that I have apnea. I started crying on Sunday and my boys (both teens) walked in and asked why I was crying. I told them, because I will look like a Freak with the damn mask on me while I am sleeping...... They both laughed and said, "Mom..... who's gonna see you? You go to bed after we do, usually, and wake up before we do.... we won't see you!" This is true, but I was also thinking what if I meet someone, what will he think? My youngest just gave me a hug and said.... "Besides, would you rather be here for us or die in your sleep? We want you around alittle longer.... I could always sleep with you and slap you whenever you stop breathing.....LOL!" My kids.... you gotta love 'em!
So, LV.... I guess, what I am trying to say here.... is that your family loves you and they would want what's best for you! Don't worry about how you will look at bed time.... after all, after our eyes are closed, who can see anyone?
Take care... don't worry!!

laughing!
hello there newbie, you say your kids laughed when you told them, and so will your husband, well, they may also be struggling to accept it, it realy is not the most fetching piece of equipment is it? you've got to wear it & he's got to lay next to you. that must be hard to accept, your wife lays there, dependant on this hugly piece of equipment, to basically keep her alive, what a thought you know, you will be the one laughing, when you've cracked it & feeling better. get as much information as possible, talk to these great folk on here, their always ready help in anyway. when you've done it and you are feeling great, they'll be proud of you, all of them jean
Newly Tested
I also was tested last week and I'm hoping!!! to be diagnosed with apnea. I've already warned my sweetie and our boy (8 years old) that I will probably look like "Darth Daddy" in a couple of weeks! LOLOL But you know what? If I can get as good a night's sleep as I did during the test, it'll be major worth it! And anyone who can't understand something as serious as sleep apnea.........well, maybe you better take a second and even a third look at any kind of relationship with 'em.

Laugh, and the world laughs with you
Actually, it does look funny as all heck. with my chin strap on I look downright silly but like many things in life, it's better than the alternative. My approach is to have as much fun with it as possible. After all it's proven healthy to laugh. For better or worse, I was well past the tears atage when I first strapped the Hoover on. It's really a pain to try and talk if you haven't noticed, but the headgear does keep your hair tidy during the night. Hang in there, this too will pass!
