Hi
I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea (AHI=84.2) on June 7th, 2004, my prescribed pressure was 11 cmH20. I started my therapy on an autopap (ResMed AutoSet Spirit with humidifier) on June 12th, 2004. It was set at 9 to 20 cmH20.
Since then, I've tried the following masks:
- Ultra mirage full face ( a nightmare )
- Mirage vista (Hard frame and too wide, difficult to seal)
- Mirage Activa (nice mask, good seal, too big)
- Mirage Swift ( the best, light, very confortable, unobstructive, little noise
but great)*****
Also, I have been tracking my treatment with the Smart Data feature and the Clinical Menu. After using each one of the masks for a week I got the following data:
Full Face Vista Activa Swift
Pressure/week: 12.4 12.2 11.2 11.0
Leak l/s /week: 0.32 0.12 0.08 0.18
AHI/week: 14.9 2.5 4.2 4.3
AI/week: 4.9 0.2 0.2 0.5
HI/week: 9.5 2.1 3.4 3.4
From that experience, I'd like to make some questions:
- What is AI, HI? Are those residual apneas and hypoapneas that the
machine could not solve?
- What would be an acceptable AHI? Below 5? 10?
- Why masks from the same manufacturer have variations in AI, HI,
pressure? and why with the same mask one day you have an AHI of
4.0 and the next day 2.0?
- Why weekly AHI is not equal to AI+HI?
