Is it common for the users of a cpap mask to have tear duct issues? Mine have clogged and I have wondered if the pressure of my Mirage Ultra could cause the problem. Is this common?
thx in advance
First post, wondering about complications
Re: First post, wondering about complications
Problems with tear ducts aren't exactly rare, but they don't seem to be any where near as common as air in the stomach is.
When I first started out I was titrated at 9cm and I could feel air blowing into my eyes via the tear ducts. Really weird feeling and it's not at all like air blowing into the eyes from outside---like a mask leak feels.
When I reported the problem to the PA in the sleep doctor's office, she took the complaint seriously. There were a number of other issues going on as well. She ordered a week's worth of autotitration, which resulted in me being switched from staight CPAP to APAP with a range of 4--8 cm.
I would advise you to contact the sleep doctor's office as soon as possible and report the clogged tear ducts. You don't want to play around with problems concerning your eyes. There's bound to be something they can do---or they may refer you to an eye doctor who is knowledgeable about CPAP therapy to see what he might be able to recommend.
