titration night

Post by ThirdOutOfFive » Fri Jul 29, 2011 7:49 pm

Last night was titration night at the sleep lab. I felt absolutely trashed this morning, but the tech who came in to talk to me said that I had done well. OKaaaay. I will be using 8cm pressure. Is this good, bad, or somewhere in between? Tech did say that my sleep interruptions dropped into the target range. Don't ask me for any more numbers, though. I am not a number person at the best of times, and this morning was not my best time.
I think my problem was a poor fitting nasal cushion mask. It felt too big for me. Every time I moved, one side would shift and I would have to nudge the mask into a position where both nostrils were getting the same amount of air. I will insist on a smaller mask on Mon. when I meet with my DMD. (Is it just me, or do you all pronounce that "dummy"?)
I am determined to succeed at this therapy. I want my energy back!
PS Thanks to everyone who replied to my previous post. Your willingness to share felt like a good, warm hug. Hugs back at all of you.

Depends on who you ask? Those that have to use pressures in the teens will say you are so lucky...
It is good in the sense that you will have a much easier time adjusting to the pressure because it really is relatively mild.
Doesn't go much lower.

Good attitude and determination will help you because there will likely be some rough spots.
Mask fit will be the hurdle.

You have already done you homework about the machines or will finish this weekend so you will go in well armed.

Next is the DME gauntlet. Lets hope it goes smoothly but don't let them railroad you. This is your therapy and you have major impact an input.

I wish they'd titrate me to 8cm. So feel lucky! (Why not?!)

Third, you are lucky to need only 8 cm. That's relatively mild, doesn't go much lower. That will make it easier to get your mask to seal, and there's enough headroom that you were titrated on your side and want to sleep on your back, the extra pressure required won't blow the mask off your face. If you were titrated at 8 cm on your back, I wonder if you'd even have OSA on your side or your stomach.
