Just found out

Post by chascall » Thu Feb 09, 2006 12:40 pm

I just got the results from my sleep study and I'll be going in to look at cpaps in about 3 hours. I have no idea what I need to ask or look for. Anyone have some advise for me out there? I'm not even sure off all the numbers they have given me and what they mean.

Howdy,

Sorry you have it. My advice would be to look but don't bring home. They will act like you are weird but the catch with CPAPs is that once you bring one home, ignorant of how good (or bad) it is, your insurance company won't give you another one.

As a rule, local providers give YOU a CPAP, whereas online companies like BillMyInsurance.com give YOU a choice and you tell them what you want.

The best place to research CPAPs is right here. The second best is cpap.com's CPAP Machine section:

https://www.cpap.com/simple-find-cpap-p ... ected=CPAP

There are Auto CPAPs and Strait CPAPs. Many here believe Autos, which adjust breath by breath to your ideal pressure, are better machines. You can read about the differences here:

https://www.cpap.com/cpap-faq/Machines.html#FGID-2

For a hard and fast reference, if it was me, I'd get one of these:

Pro 2 with C-Flex (CPAP), Remstar Auto with C-flex (Auto), 420E (Auto)

Ask a ton of questions here and learn fast - you want to get on CPAP asap, but you don't want to get stuck with a bad machine.

Johnny

It looks like that I might need to use oxygen too. Will that make any difference in what cpap I need?
