Hello All...I'm New

Post by gkeenan » Fri Jan 27, 2006 10:09 am

Well hello. I guess I've finally found the right place for me. I need to lose weight but have been struggling for the past 6 years. 7 years ago I was dx with sleep apnea then did the surgeries...went back was tested again was told I no longer had sleep apnea, gained all the weight back and have been up at least 10 times a night for the past 6 years...I've finally taken out my machine and am using it again...one full week.

I would love to join your challenge. and this group.

Hello...welcome. This is a great place to learn and meet other "hoseheads" in our perennial struggle against the evildoer DMEs , our esophagel soft tissue and in the quest for lower CPAP pressures and AHIs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this mean you're using your machine at the same pressure it had when you were diagnosed?

If so, set up an appointment for a sleep test ASAP - age, weight, and surgeries (which, by the way?) change our pressure needs, and how we can use CPAP. You really have no reason to assume that setup is still good for you.

Gkeenan, in another of your posts, you complained about "terrible headaches". If you haven't been titrated, etc. per Ozij's post above, all I can say about the "terrible headaches" is DUH .......................

I'm sorry if I sound unsympathetic, but that is just plain dumb. .... Get yourself to a doctor before you do serious damage to yourself.

Gkeenan, everyone else wants you to put your faith in a doc and spend several thousand dollars for a sleep study. Not me!

You already know what apnea is like and how it feels. If it were me, I'd see if my physician would write me a prescription for an autopap with software. Then I'd monitor the results and make adjustments/decisions based on the data.

But then that's just me. Of course, my experience is that the sleep docs missed my apnea in two separate sleep studies. . .

Regards,
Bill
