I recently purchased an APAP and the software to process the data it records. My CPAP was set to 10cm and my APAP was set to a range of 10-15. At this range, my AHI total has been below 1.0. Last night I reduced my minimum pressure to 7cm and recorded more apneas and hypopneas with a total AHI of 2.7.
My question is whether or not it is likely that by reducing my lower pressure I have increased the number of apneas and hypopneas. The 10-15 range worked well for me; are there any other ranges I might consider given my initial CPAP setting of 10cm?
Any thought would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you may have went a little low, on APAP I would try 9 to 13. AHI of 1.0 is hard to beat, but you need a week of data to make up your mind. We all have a bad night every now and again. I.m slowing weaning my AHI down but don't have APAP to help, using the Ky wind-age method. My AHI 1.2 isn't bad, but tonight we try 15.5 cm for a few days. My machine measures a little low, in reality it's probably 14.5 cm.

Thanks for the help!!! I don't know what I would do without support like this.
Results from last night (1/31):
Total AHI: 0.4
Total Snores 5
Total Apneas: 3
Pressure Range: 10-16
90% AutoCPAP: 11.8
Avg. AtuoCPAP: 10.6
Question: What is indicated by "Fraction of Night in Variable Breathing" (28.6%).....??

It was apparently intended to indicate REM sleep, but this presumes your AHI is low enough so breathing changes are caused by REM and not obstructions.slumberer wrote:Question: What is indicated by "Fraction of Night in Variable Breathing" (28.6%).....??
I hit an all-time high of about 70% (usually between 30% and 40% for me) in variable breathing last night, but I had events all night too, so I think it was more an indication of the events than REM sleep.

Bill
Variable Breathing, That's the $100 Question, I Avg 40% lately, I don't have any idea where the good-bad line is. It seems that as my numbers go down it gets lower, if I am restless they go up. I think mine is worse when congested, (always is), so I just ignore it and work on the other numbers.
Last night I started 15.5 cm, I may have gone past the Sweet Spot. We will give it a few days before deciding wither it need to go back to 15 cm. I have also settled on two 81 mg aspirins and two decongestant tabs before bed.
