2 simple questions about RemStar Auto and C-Flex

Post by jcarn » Tue Jan 31, 2006 1:10 pm

is there only one model that is Auto?

is there an Auto without C-Flex?

My DME had mentioned the RemStar Pro as being an Auto machine. I think I may know more than she does at this point. I tried to explain to them that there is a RemStar Auto with C-Flex. They kept telling me that it is the RemStar Pro ...

Just trying to clear a few things up .. thanks for any replies

Yes, but the other is the Auto-BiPAP, not the Pro.

Yes, but it is an obsolete model not currently being manufactured

On the Remstar Auto, you can always turn the C-flex function off; it has four setttings: CPAP--regular, non-C-flex, CPAP; APAP--Auto without C-flex, AFLE---Auto with C-Flex; CFLE--regular CPAP with C-flex. The options alone make it a very attractive therapy device.

You definitely know more than she does, jcarn.

The Respironics REMstar Pro is not an autopap in any shape, form, or fashion. The REMstar Pro is a straight cpap machine. And an older one, at that. As far as I know, Respironics stopped making the Pro last year, in favor of manufacturing the Pro 2 instead.

The older Pro recorded only "hours of use" compliance data. The Pro 2 records nightly events data. Recording more information does not make a cpap machine into an autopap, though. Perhaps the little DME was confused on that point, if you want to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Of course, there are still plenty of old "Pro" machines (without the "2" in the name) still sitting on DME's shelves all over the country, so your DME might have been told by her boss to try to push those older Pro machines on out the door. But it really sounds more like she simply doesn't know what she's talking about.

Slumberer summed up nicely the four modes that can be used in the Respironics REMstar Auto with C-Flex.

C-Flex can always be turned off in any Respironics machine that has it.

thanks again all

I'm getting a machine tomorrow and it turns out that my DME knows what I need (it's his help that needs some education). My DME is actually kinda cool. When he called to schedule delivery, the first thing he said to me is "So, you've been on the Internet again?" .. hehe

I decided to try out the RemStar Auto because my wife can't get used to the 420E sound.
I like the 420E and will probably purchase one down the line. But in my case, if the wife can't sleep, neither can I .. lol

I've heard it's a bit quieter .. Hopefully the RemStar Auto will suit her needs and make my life better. It seems to be the way to go in my situation. I've heard nothing but praise for it and by the reviews on this board it should be a good decision.

I have ordered the card reader from 2factors .. does the card reader come with any cards? Hopefully my DME won't take the card out of the RemStar box .

so far .. through the DME I've tried the HC234, S8 Vantage, PB 420E .. and soon to be RemStar Auto .. not bad eh

The card doesn't come with the reader, but one should come with the new machine, don't let them palm it. Make sure you get the heated humidifier with it.

You will love it. I made up a MP3 CD of nature sounds and have a small boom box that plays it, the cd plays for about 5 hours and is relaxing and helps mask room noises. Just a idea, Rain storms and brooks are nice.
