Foam-pillow hygeine?
Foam-pillow hygeine?
How do you all clean your foam pillows? All the ones I have found online state that they should be spot-cleaned. But I like to give my pillows a good wash weekly. I imagine a foam pillow would disintegrate after a few trips through the washer. I could probably get away with washing them less often now that I am drooling into my mask instead of my pillow. But I would still want to give it a good wash—not just a spot cleaning.

I use a pillowcase with my foam pillow, so have never felt the need to clean the pillow, just change the pillowcase. My foam pillow must be 10 or more years old.

I would never consider washing a foam...or feather....pillow. Just use a pillowcase.

I wouldn't either.LSAT wrote:I would never consider washing a foam...or feather....pillow. Just use a pillowcase.
If I were extremely concerned about body fluids penetrating the foam I would use some sort of inner liner that would prevent fluids from coming in contact with the foam. Water proof inner liners are available.

Excellent feedback, everyone. I just bought one. Maybe I'll wake up tomorrow morning with a mark-free face!

Well, based on your enthusiasm for your pillow, I went out to Walmart and got the closest one to your description I could find. There were none by Mainstay, but I got one by Canopy. It was $19.00 instead of $12.00, but that's still better than $60.00.lars4life wrote:You just bought one. What? What kind? Tell us more!
For the first time since I started CPAP therapy, I woke up on the other side than the one I started out on. I see this as a very good thing: staying unconscious from one side to my back to my other side. That "channel" in the middle of the pillow did the trick, I think. I had a teeny bit of a sore neck in the morning, which I hope was just random. Also, the top of my head doesn't reach the top ridge of the pillow. But that I could roll around in my sleep without waking up trumps everything. I also like the "soft/firm" level: it's very comfortable.
Also, while I had indents in my face, they weren't the painful, red gouge-marks I get with other pillows.
Thank you for the recommendation, L4L: It looks like it might work out!
