head gear neck pain

Post by wsm grand duffus » Tue May 10, 2011 1:47 pm

I have been successfully using a CPAP for many years but now I am developing arthritis in my neck and shoulder. This is causing a problem with tight headgear. I thought some of you may have some advise on what kind of mask and rig has worked best for you without pressure and strain on the neck. thanks

It would help to know what you are using and/or have tried.

I have a metal rod in my neck. Bad arthritis caused removal of 2 vertebrae and dead person bone implant. Early on in therapy it was readily apparent that head gear would be a problem. Nasal pillow mask headgear puts zero strain on my neck and that was one of my primary reasons for choosing that type of mask. The other mask types with straps and gear near or on neck caused immediate pain..

Check out my current mask in my profile.

Now if you are die hard mouth breather and absolutely cannot breathe through your nose, then it becomes much more difficult just because of that lower strap that is causing pain. Might need to consider alternate options.
