OT Begin the Beguine

Post by carbonman » Sat May 07, 2011 6:28 pm

Finally, the climbing can beguine.
The snow will begin to melt and runoff will be
in full force in a couple of days.
I have been waiting all winter to ride the new bike path
from Bakerville to Loveland Basin. It was the final link in
the ride from Idaho Springs to Loveland Basin w/out having
to ride on I-70. Yea!!

It was a beautiful day.
The ride takes you up Clear Ck.

Past GeorgeTown lake.

Into GeorgeTown and the start of the climb up the GeorgeTown hill.
Image
It also takes you up to the GeorgeTown Loop Narrow Gauge Railroad station.
The lower trestle marks the halfway point to the station.
Image
You pass under the trestle again leaving the station parking lot and start
the climb to SilverPlume.
Image
Well into the climb to SilverPlume, looking down at the lower trestle and parking lot.
Image
From just below SilverPlume, looking back down Clear Ck.

The snow capped vistas were really nice.

The final climb to Bakerville and the snow is looking pretty deep.

Finally, what I have been looking for.....doesn't look good.
Image

....oh, well, not today. I'll be back next weekend.
Image

From Bakerville, to the south is Torrey's Pk, my first 14er.
Climbed it by the north ridge in the middle of the pic.

It felt so good to be back out on the road.
Back in the mountains.
Thoughts of the reverse TripleByPass to come in a couple of months.
The dance on the pedals.
Let it begin.

I'll see you on the road.

Just beautiful, thanks. Are you going to be doing the breast cancer ride again this year?

Great pictures, as always, carbonman. It's as if you take us along on your ride. Thanks!

Dori, w/incredible disappointment, the Komen walk in Denver,
was canceled due to economic conditions.
We looked into doing the Avon walk in Frisco/Breckenridge,
but the crew was full.

Really going to miss this.
