I usually use a mp3 player which normally does the trick but it seems that when I have an event the preasure that my body needs is far to high for my lungs to cope with not sure what my AHI is of late or my VSI. My equipment belongs to the NHS which is why Im not allowed to download the data (Dont have cards).

Get a card, break the rules and figure out what is going on. If they give you flack after the fact tell them your health and career is more important then their rules assuming they ever find out. Otherwise buy your own machine instead of this "Please, sir. may I have some data?"
It sounds like you need more pressure rather then less. Also you may want to tape the mask to your face so attempting to remove it will wake you up.

I wish it was that simple, if I start downloading data then the NHS could refuse my treatment. We are not allowed to touch there equipment, even though its our data, think I will get an oximeter and check that way.

Hello old friend!
if I start downloading data then the NHS could refuse my treatment
If you download data it doesn't necessarily disappear from what's on record, and therefore no-one need ever know that you 'saw' your data before they did! Anyway whose data is it anyway?!!
Having got threw all the ups and downs of mask leaks and rainout and a sore face its no fun having to start all over again. Was it worth giving up, I have to be truthfull and say yes it was well worth it. I guess I will just have to practise what I preach and start again hopefully I will overcome my problems again!
It would be so wonderful to think that once we'd got our CPAP therapy nailed, and all was working a treat, we'd never have to give it a second thought. But that's not the case. I too had to 'start again from scratch' when I was given a Quattro Full Face mask recently ... 2 weeks of hell after 12 years of relative paradise. Luckily the change was unsatisfactory so I returned to my nasal mask, but still had a period when it was difficult to settle to it again, and wondering about fit and leaks etc.

Grasp the nettle firmly, and get back onboard; yes I know that you've learned a lot about your condition and its therapy over the last year, but we can always learn more and discover new things to help us with our xPAPs .... so don't feel that you've underachieved in the past, because the most important time is the present with a nod to an uncomplicated future, at least as far as one's OSA is concerned.

I was a long time (27+ years) and overindulging (2-3 packs a day) smoker and was lucky enough to quit about 4 years ago. On top of that I am a long time (over 20 years) Cpap user so I can testify with a high level of confidence that quitting smoking itself doesn’t affect your therapy. It is the withdrawals and anxiety that make you restless. It is almost a feeling like those who take speed, where you do not feel comfortable sleeping, standing, or even eating. As with all times when you are out of focus the best thing that you can do is distract yourself by changing your routine. Eat at a different time, go to bed at a different time, and do things that you do not normally do such as exercise or take a walk. When it is time for bed try to calm your thoughts and maybe get a tape of rain falling or the tide coming in at the ocean. It may take a little time or it could click right away and you will probably sleep better than you have in years. It is nice to save the money but what I find as nice is that I am no longer a slave to that craving and do not have to stand out side huddled with others who don’t have the courage to quit. Congrats and keep up the great work!!!!!

Gazby; I believe you are strong enough to do this. You need to believe it too.
You have gotten this far. One night at a time; you can do it.
Use some of the more helpful suggestions on this forum.
Something just might do the trick.
Good luck, I love your avatar.

I quit smoking cold-turkey in 2004, after being a 36 yr smoker of about, on average, 1/4 pack daily, & more if I was drinking alcohol on the weekends. I had tried before about 4 times over the years and failed. What worked in 2004 was that I got a Hummingbird teeth flosser (a hand-held small machine that vibrates using battery that you put a tip on to clean of floss your teeth and gums). I think they still sell them in the dental part in the health and beauty dept of the stores. I just picked a day to smoke my last cigarette, and then I used the Hummingbird to clean my teeth every time I wanted a cigarette after that. I found that I smoked more in the car while trying to drive in traffic jams, at work when they computer acted up, and after meals, so I was cleaning and flossing my teeth mostly when I was not in the company of others. I could also do it in the ladies room if I wanted. If I was with others who were my friends, they were happy I was doing something to better my health instead of lighting up, so it didn't bother them any. It satisifed my Oedipus complex, and gave me something else to do that was healthy, that kept my mind off that nicotine fix. For those of you who are still smoking and/or struggling to quit, I suggest you buy a few Hummingbirds & the two different tips (they are pretty cheap) and keep one always close-by, wherever you are, and your dentist and doctor will both be pleased when you quit smoking and floss/massage your teeth/gums more often! I had one in my car, one in my purse, one at my desk, and one at my bedside. If you have to go retrieve it from somewhere else, when you want it, you might be tempted to give in and have a cigarette instead if you can find one. It is the best thing I ever did for my lungs, teeth and gums! Now that I am 6 years post-tobacco abuse, I find I don't need the Hummingbird anywhere near as often, but still use it a few times a day to maintain teeth and gum health.
