first night s9 auto (even more tired) see my results

Post by pyrrhon » Wed May 04, 2011 11:36 am

After one night I got these results:

Its my first machine ever

Obstructive 0,9
Central 6.7

IAH 9

And I feel terribly tired. Worst then ever. What can I do with Obstructive ? Raise the minimum pressure on the s9 auto ? Any sugggestion ?

Thanks

After one night please do not change your settings! You need to give the machine and your current pressure time to work for you. You might have a lot of experience before you got your S9. If so you should know to give things at least a week before you make any changes. If you are a newbie, stick around and learn something about CPAP before you start changing things. It takes some of us a month or more before we start to feel better. You may also have a sleep deficit to make up. You haven't been getting good sleep for a while so you have to pay that deficit back. You may find you need to sleep longer for a while. This can also creep up after several months. If you still continue to feel worse than before I urge you to call your doc before you start making changes. You didn't get OSA overnight so it can take some time to recover.
Be sure your mask is fitting well and your leaks are in acceptable ranges. Also you need to use the machine all night, every night.
Good luck, hang in there, it can take awhile. If you need adjustments make them a little further down the road. Until you've done a lot of reading on the forum and know more about what you are doing go slow.
Keep posting.
Also, please go to the control panel and under profile enter your equipment info in text, not pictures- that will help others to assist you better.
I also urge you to read the section on the main page called "new users" and any other educational material on the forum.

thanks, I will go with your advice but I have some deception. I was expecting at least some progress. Im really near a point of collapse. I just have to hang on little more.

That's not horribly bad. AHI of 9.0 is high, but give it some time and see what the trend shows. The fact that your obstructives are down to a low level shows the machine is doing what it's supposed to. And don't sweat the "centrals." They aren't nearly as important as the obstructive events.

What is the machine's current minimum pressure setting? And what is the prescribed pressure from your sleep study?

What kind of mask do you have? If it is nasal pillows or a nasal mask, you may be leaking air out of your mouth and thereby losing your therapy. The mouth must be sealed, either by a full face mask or other means.

That's a good score for obstructive apneas, so you don't need to do anything specific about them right now.... you do need to come to an understanding of what is causing the Central Apneas score, as its possible that you have some Sleep Disordered Breathing issues (other than simple obstructive sleep apnea) which need addressing.

Cheers,

Bill

You have unrealistic expectations if you expect any progress after just one night. It happens to a lucky few, but it is far from common. THere's a lot that has to be worked out for you to start to feel the benefits--you need to get used to sleeping with the mask and machine, keep leaks under control, and get your optimal therapy dialed in. It takes time. There aren't any shortcuts, unfortunately.

Feeling as bad as you do now didn't happen overnight, even though you may have suddenly noticed it one morning. Feeling better will not happen overnight either, but if you stick with it and get everything under control it WILL happen.

Patience, grasshopper.

BTW, when you post stats, leak rates are equally important to help us see what's going on.

Welcome to our little group.

Please fill in the equipment on your profile so it shows in your posts.

What's your pressure, manual or auto CPAP, do you use ramp?

Did you manage to sleep the whole night? Any problems?

pressure range is 6-16
I slept 8 hours + woke twice: 40 minutes and 20 minutes.

I going to sleep to get more data. I do an update tomorrow.

Thanks for all your answers!
