Hi
I just upgraded from an S7 elite to an S8 Elite, and I am quite surprised that new machine is so loud. It's fairly close to my head, so it's loud enough to keep me awake.
I'd say it's about twice as loud as an S7. It may be within the limits of the spec, but because it's so close to me its too loud. I could lower the machine, so its below my head, but moving it farther away would be difficult.
I was just wondering if this is normal for an S8. Does it's small size make it a louder machine? Could the machine have a problem? I don't hear anything like grinding bearings or anything like that, but to have a cpap this loud is weird. I've had an RemStar Pro 2, an S7, and now an S8, and this thing is much louder than the others.
Thanks
Sam

Edit: I visited my DME company today. I wish it was a dealer that had a lot of experience with Resmed, because these guys don't really have a clue about my machine (they normally deal with respironics and had to special order this machine)).
Anyway, it seems it's only noisy when back pressure is applied (ie I'm exhaling), but it IS defintely louder than the S7 I had. I'm going to try lowering the machine. I'd like to get more input from other people, if theres others out there that have had both the s7 and s8 series (maybe I'll record the noise for you tonight.)
Thanks!
Sam

I have the S7 autoset spirit and the S8 autoset spirit and the S8 is quite a lot quieter than the S7. The only noise it really makes is air noise, while the S7 did make some fan noise. I would say that you have a faulty machine if it is so much noisier than your S7.
I keep my S8 on the floor beside my bed and don't notice it at all!
Hope that helps

I have the S8 Elite and don't notice anything I would call abnormal or loud. It is below my head on a stand by the bed. I have noticed a significant difference in loudness in two different mask. The Mirage Vista Nasal mask appears to produce significantly more volume on discharge and really roars. The FlexiFit is so quiet that if I wake up and listen for my breathing in and out, I'm not sure I have the mask on. Might it be the mask? Might try placing the unit on a towel do absorb the sound? Good luck
