Grateful that I bought and did not rent my S9!
Grateful that I bought and did not rent my S9!
When I started on my journey some months ago....I decided to spend the money and buy verses renting. I am so glad I did this. My wonderful job which I loved and enjoyed going to work every day....fired me this afternoon. Out of blue. I got a good performance review for the month...and my commission numbers were a personal high record for me. Now I am unemployed again.
Well, as my father always said, "God never closes one door before opening another door, or a window!" So after many changes in my life and an enduring yet another change. Unemployment...add to that OSA, and divorce in progress. Lord I know you are testing me.....but please I wish you would reveal your plan that is demanding all this patience and strength!
On a good note I just got accepted into college and will returning as a full-time student starting this summer. Computer Science IT security major. Now I am not even sure if I will go through with attending classes.

I'm sorry about your job, but maybe the window opening for you is being able to put your full attention to college. I bet if you scout around there are scholarships and grants for returning students and for people experiencing job loss. And perhaps you'll be eligible for on campus employment to augment your unemployment income?
That may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

A suggestion: Don't give up college but at the same time take Nurse's Aid classes (it takes few months to be certified), and work in it to save money.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately I have rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and osteo-arthritis. I was a paramedic for 10 years and its a line of work I can no longer handle due to my health.avi123 wrote:

I will go back to the job boards and try to find another work from home job that will fit with my school schedule. I have gone soo far, dreamed and scacrificed to much to let my dream slip away now!

Try Voc-Rehab (it is called vocational rehabilitation in Missouri). It can help supplement your income some. After my son's accident he was able to go back to school and get his degree in teaching using voc-rehab (you must have some type of disability in order to qualify in Mo.). Sounds like you would be a good candidate.

Janknitz is on the right track. I'm not familiar with the programs in your state, but there are educational programs out there for people who have been laid off and who may need some schooling to be more marketable in finding a job. The first place to check is what used to be called the unemployment office (here in Washington they call it JobSource or something like that). Then talk to the counselor at the college that specializes in that sort of thing...that person or department may be called something like Workforce Retraining or Worker Retraining or something like that. The financial aid office might know what the department is called if you can't easily find it on the school's website.
Because of your physical issues, also check with the school's office that handles students with disabilities--you'll most likely want/need some special chairs in your classrooms and they may also know who you can talk to about funding for school.
It isn't necessarily easy to find the funding, but it is out there. Dig around...talk to anybody and everybody you can think of. Many colleges are pretty lousy at helping students find the resources/departments they need, so you need to ask a LOT of questions and be prepared to feel like you're running in circles. Depending on the industry that you worked in, there may even be funding attached or available to people laid off from that specific industry.
Don't forget financial aid. If you haven't already used it, the Pell grant is several thousand dollars that can get you through a few quarters of tuition and books. There are sometimes issues of WHEN you became unemployed and your prior income may cause some delay in getting financial aid, but again, you may be able to get temporary funding from another agency until you can quality for financial aid.
I'm so sorry to hear that things are so tough for you right now. My thoughts and prayers are with you....please hang in there!
Weezy

Re: Grateful that I bought and did not rent my S9!
I signed up for financial aid. Its enough to cover all my school and books. So I am ok there. I got some good tips on some job leads from a former co-worker.
Its just I'm in shock now. I was speaking this weekend and just shared with my daughter that I might finally be able to afford my own apartment and she can come and live with me to go to graduate school in a year.....and poof its gone.
It just seems like I take three steps forward to have something throw me two steps backward. I'm ore concerned about my kids not having health insurance. I just finally was able to afford to insurance them...and that is probably going to be gone too.
Well, tomorrow is a new day. I have a list of things to do...mainly file for unemployment, check and see about my CPAP supplies. The good thing is my company has a $2k HRA and I contribute $2k. So I am paid up as far as deductible. I just need to be able to pay for the insurance.
I've stock piled CPAP supplies. I have two extra climateline hoses, two full Resmed LT for her masks, and enough parts and nasal pillows to last a long time. I'm glad I stock piled some supplies now. I am due a full new mask and humidifier chamber this month.

I was canned out of the blue on the day of my sleep study. Glad I had a sleeping pill.
