Good morning all. Saturday has finally arrived
Since I decided to increase my pressure from 8 to 8.5, I've noticed a remarkable decrease of events, much better AHI:
2
1.5
2.1
1.3
1.8
3.2
1.3
5.0
0.07
1.6
QUESTION: Do I REALLY want to go for the mother load and increase to 9??? I'm thinking I should. From what I'm beginning to see, I may see more 0.X if I increased to 9.
CONCERN: From what I've gathered, as we age our events get worse over time. Thus, increasing pressure will be required.
However, I don't want to increase too early. Sounds like a stupid question as I'm typing this.

To Increase Pressure or Not???
Re: To Increase Pressure or Not???
How are you feeling with this setting?
If you feel good and rested there is no real need to go higher with your pressure. I'm not sure that people need more pressure as they get older (at least not much). I don't know for sure. I started at 10cm just about 9 years ago and I am now getting a 90% pressure of usually 12cm (I have an auto with a narrow range 10.5-13).
I will be 72 next week so I can't see a hugh difference because I am now almost 9 years older. My weight has not changed much either (maybe up 3 pounds) but I was never much overweight, except for a few years when I was much younger (long before I was diagnosed started on cpap).
If you just want better numbers (nothing wrong with the numbers you are getting at all) then you could raise some more.

Re: To Increase Pressure or Not???
Thank you Hawthorne for replying.
Since I raised to 8.5, I'm feeling great. Much better in fact!
Agreed, I think that's how I'll calibrate it going forward. When I start to notice that the AHI is increasing to 3.X, 4.X, 5.X then that will be the time to increase the pressure to 9.

Re: To Increase Pressure or Not???
I found that along with the index numbers, keeping a log of how you felt upon waking and through the day helps to fine tune the pressure. For me I needed to increase the pressure but as the pressure increased I had to play with the exhaust relief as well, the two had a combined affect for me. I found a delicate balance that with the right pressure/EPR combination my index numbers were good and I felt the best. I found that for me I run in Auto mode, 16-20 and EPR at only 1. I am finding now after more than 3 months that both my average and 95 percentile pressures are decreasing ever so slightly and my index numbers look good as well, but more importantly I feel great.

Adjusting to life with OSA and being pressurized each night ...
Re: To Increase Pressure or Not???
Yes, if the AHI increases then upping the pressure would be a good idea.
Don't forget though, that you may have a 3.x, 4.x, 5.x you should wait for several nights to see if it actually needs to be raised. I just came through a couple of nights when my AHI was 5.x for 2 nights. That just doesn't happen to me. I didn't change it though the next 2 nights I have been 2 or below again. Something was obvioulsy going on those 2 nights but it didn't not continue so no change was needed. I wouldn't have increased it unless that 5.x AHI continued for more than a week.
