can you edit your machine info in your profile maybe someone can help a little better. are you using the ramp feature does that help you fall asleep better? if it continues i would call the DR ASAP and let them know you are having this problem.

10 is not an abnormally high pressure. I believe most people on this board are at pressures of 10 or higher. Chest pressure and hard to breath are not symptoms to take lightly.....see your doctor!

Hi, it's not that the pressure's too high, but that your chest muscles are not used to being 'exercised' as they are now with Cpap, and it could take a little while until you adjust. That's often what happens to people new to the machine.

I've got the same problem, doctor reckons it's "excess air" in the diaphraghm pushing against everything. Tried me on Losec for indigestion but didn't work - surprise, surprise! I think the diagnosis is right, as burping relieves the pressure a bit - but doesn't clear it completely until a big burp occurs - I try and bring this on by drinking a fizzy drink - sometimes works. Seems to me that it's just like "wind" that babies get if they're not burped - can get very painful.

spoon,
I had similar feelings when I started cpap. I think Julie is right, it's just that those chest muscles are not used to working all night long. Mine got better, and I'm guessing yours will to (since you've already checked with your doctor).

cdhill,
Your problem sounds a little different. I'm guessing it might be aerophagia that you are dealing with. It is not a problem that I have experienced, so I'm not really much help, but if you search the site, and probably even the wikki (light bulb up near the top of the page), you should have plenty of information to look at. Basically, aerophagia is air that gets into your stomach while you are sleeping with cpap.

Good luck to both of you!

I had some of the same chest discomfort when I first started. It went away after a while. They did run all sorts of cardiac tests on me to make sure though.

Depending on where you are this is also the start of allergy/asthma season so you may have some asthma symptoms coming on. I don't wheeze with my asthma. I get chest discomfort. I didn't get diagnosed with asthma until I was about 36 so you never know. If I went the the hospital every time I had chest pain I would need an apartment there. Get it checked out though.

Edit: Also, my pressure is 15 so 10 isn't anything really unusual. There are lots of folks on here with higher. As far as the humidity thing goes you just need to play with the settings and find what works for you best. Everybody is different. I don't think I could tolerate the cpap without the humidifier. I have accidentally forgotten to fill it up before and when the water ran out I woke up almost immediately with my sinuses burning from being dried out so badly.

I never had chest "aches" on 10, but when I gained weight I requested a pressure increase to 12, I started having these "aches" in my chest after I woke up and they would last for about an hour ----FA

I had chest discomfort for about the first week or two. It subsided as I got used to the machine. Epr and ramp might help until you get used to it.
