Nasal Infection from Pillow vs. Mask?

Post by alantexas » Sat Jan 07, 2006 2:52 pm

I switched 2 months ago from an Ultra Mirage nasal mask to a Swift nasal pillow (which I love!). Since that time I have had a low level sinus infection that also gives me nose bleeds. I am trying to figure out if it a coincidence or because the air flow is directed straight into the nose vs. into the mask.
Has anyone else had this problem or thoughts on what may be happening.

PS - I use a non-heated humidifier and wash the "nose-plugs" of the pillow every night.

The cough that I developed for almost six months caused me to eventually go to my pulmanologist , who put me on this vpap. I use the pillows too.
He said it was probably from a sinus drip and told me to use claritan (store brand) It has improved to about 90% effective in one pill a day for 2 weeks. He felt that it is an allergy. Perhaps this is some thing før you to ponder.

I'm not a doctor but my bet would be that a heated humidifier might solve your problem.
