Another "hole" in my data...two hours this time!

Post by needzzzzs » Wed Mar 23, 2011 4:10 pm

A few weeks ago I mentioned a missing 15-minute gap in my machine's data.

Last night the gap was 2 hours, not 15 minutes!

I slept very well, woke up only once (that I remember), and had a very good AHI (2.4) last night.

The machine does turn on and off automatically. Perhaps I need to change the setting (if I can) so it won't do that?

I'm mystified!

No big leak with that missing time? That would be the only reason it should do that on its own if you had the machine set that way.
I had it happen once but it was obvious that a large leak preceded the turn off.

I would be thinking of having the machine checked out.

Edit: that is unless the aliens have now moved to experiment at your house...

Nope,Pugsy, no big leak. I've never actually had a large leak recorded. My usual leak seems to run between 18-20.

I'm thinking that somehow the machine shut off. I suppose it's *possible* that this coincided with a bathroom break, and that I (my personal self) shut the machine off and didn't turn it back on again...but I always wait to feel the pillows seat properly against my nares before I settle down to sleep again. I honestly do not exactly remember when I got up last night, although I know I did, once.

Guess I will have the machine checked out. And I'll ask my cat to watch for aliens entering the bedroom tonight...

I find it unlikely that you would sleep for two hours masked up with machine off. I know we won't suffocate but there is noticeable difference of air flow when masked up and it is off. Does you machine start by itself when you mask up and take a few breaths?
I suppose someone could turn it off, get up to go to bathroom and come back to bed, go to sleep and sometime in the middle of the next hours put mask on and turn on machine and not remember it, but that is really a stretch. Especially since you already had a 15 minute gap. Either you are doing some weird stuff or the machine is.... course if this was happening to me my husband would put the weird on me.

Your call of course but if you want to wait and see if it happens a third time, 3 strikes it is out (I would think) and needs to be checked out if you can't find logical explanation that you are happy with. If it bugs you, get it checked. Peace of mind is worth a lot.

Check out this topic I started a few days ago: viewtopic/t61814/Gaps-in-Encore-Reports.html. Look like yours? In mine, that looks like two one-hour segments that I definitely wasn't aware of.

Brian, the gaps do look a lot like yours, but I do not have large leaks in my data. We have different machines, but we're both using versions of Encore software.

I think I'll give my DME a call today to see if they have any ideas about what could be causing this. I'll report back after I talk to them.

My machine (same as needzzzs) did the same thing. I don't have the auto on (for when you first breathe) turned on. I woke up a few times over the space of a few months with the machine off. I then turned it back on so I had breaks in my data - one night it was for 4 hours. The machine was faulty - it has been noted on another post than machines purchased early to mid 2010 may have had a problem. The machine was replaced by PR.

Thank you for sharing this info, snoozysue. I got my machine in December 2010, but need to check the date when it was actually made. I called my DME and made an appointment for a phone call on Monday with my clinician to discuss this. The other people there didn't have a clue.
