help controls on machine

Post by Guest » Wed Mar 23, 2011 8:53 am

HI,

Should the exhale pressure and inhale pressure be the same? I have both at 3, I just got new machine and looking at the menu, my doctor has the exhale at 3 and not sure what the inhale was at as i might have moved it when I was figuring out the controls. thanks for your help

No they won't be the same. Which machine? What was your prescribed pressure? I am not aware of any machine that offers an inhale pressure of 3. Most machines have a 4 cm minimum, not a 3 cm.

The Devilbiss Autoadjust does have a minimum pressure setting of 3cm, unlike any other cpap machien I know of.

As setting of 3 cm is too low for anyone (as is 4 cm on the other machines). Setting the SmartFlex (exhalation relief) at 3 as well as setting the minimum pressure at 3 will not do anything. You will have a pressure of 3 and I expect no flex setting would be possible because setting Smartflex at 1, with minimum pressure of 3 cm will do nothing. It can't do anything. There is no exhalation pressure to drop it to. The machine will not go to 2 cm.

The IRnd and the ERnd are "roundings" for the SmartFlex setting no matter if it is set at 1, 2 or 3. It The Rnd makes the start and finish of the Smartflex setting (exhalation relief) a little smoother.

You need to read up on the terminalogy related to your machine. Read the machine Users Manual. The Devilbiss is a little different that most machines. It's a very good machine though. I have one as a backup and have been using it for about a month now.

If you want the Clinician's setup Guide, that will allow you to change settings. PM me.

OP seems to have inadvertently changed the prescribed pressure settings. Doesn't remember what they were. I don't remember if she/he ever mentioned them in previous posts. This is an example where it would be helpful if a person formally registers and uses that log in each time. We could possibly go back and read an old post and see if the numbers are mentioned somewhere. We can easily combine all posts for searching if member is registered.

This is also why it is good idea to have copies of the regular and titration studies in hand and/or the copy of the prescription.

In the absence of documented prescribed settings and don't remember. Perhaps a call to DME or doctor's office and just casually ask what the prescribed settings were. Don't have to own up to messing with things...

I think OP knows how to get around in the clinical settings, that is how things got messed up.. now to just figure out how to unmess them.

Be gentle, from private emails from OP I sense that all this is very new and challenging.

The OP PMed me and is has the prescription in hand and knows that the titrated pressure is 10 cm.

I am checking what info the OP has and will go from there since I am curently using the Intellipap AutoAdjust, which is my current backup machine.

Good job, I will rest now knowing OP is in very capable hands. My hands were tied since I didn't have a clue how to get around in that machine.

The Intellipap AutoAdjust is a little different than the Respironics machines that I have always used but I have been using the Intellipap for a month now and have pretty much found my way around it. About Resmeds - I know little to nothing!!!
