Even more hol fun: Vaccume cleaner CPAP

Post by dsm » Tue Jan 03, 2006 12:08 am

Photos of a disassembled PB318 CPAP (est 8-10 yrs old)

Seriously folks, There was a period where xPAP machines used vaccume cleaner motor technology to power the air blast into our unsuspecting faces

As I have said elsewhere, I have seen early xPAP machines that used motors transposed from both washing machines & vaccume cleaners.
Prof Sullivan initially used what he could scrounge from wherever & vaccume cleaners were one of his sources.

This set of pics shows just how sophisticated a reversed flow vaccume cleaner motor in a CPAP could get plus I include a comparison with a ResMed S8 escape shown 1st along side this Puritan Bennett PB318 machine then along side part of the blower taken from the PB318.
I have included below, a photo of the unbelievable little blower in the PB420 family. They are just amazing technology, only about 2 inches in diameter but will easily deliver 20 cms pressure.

The advances in xPAP are quite remarkable (see the plumbing in the photos of the RemStar BiPap Pro2 posted elsewhere today).

Please enjoy ...

Here is a pic of PB420 fan just to show how small they can get. (choose pic18 which is on page 2 of the thumbnails, to see the tiny size of the fan)

Picture 7's a killer - the pump being about the same size as an S8! Thanks for these photos it is wonderful to see how things have advanced .. and to see what I may have had to use had I been diagnosed 10 years ago as I should have been!

Wow!

Most impressive! Do you disassemble everything you get your hands on?
I saw the inside of an old (decades old) television once. That was scary.
Very interesting, dsm.
Thanks!
