I have been on cpap since nov 10. On dec 9 my doc switched me to apap. I sill have ahi scores that seem to bounce all over. I feel that my mask is ok but I cant help wondering if I should try some other FFM, particularly now that I see the posts that there is a new quattro FX now available. At this point (2 mos in) am I still in a position to tell the (not particularly helpful) DME that I want to try new mask(s)? My insurance paid for the machine, mask etc, and is there some time frame beyond which I can't be on a "tryout"? I would not necessarily expect the DME to let me know (I have learned a lot from reading this forum!!) before it's too late. When others were newbies did you have to purchase numerous masks yourself in order to find the right one? best way to go about this???
thanks for advice

In most cases, you are allowed 30 days in which to return a mask and try a different one. Your specific case could be different.

Unless you got very lucky, there are probably more masks in your future before you settle on "the one". cpapauctions.com is a good place to start once you've exhausted your DME (You might get lucky and buy one at auction for LESS than your co-pay!)

Re: what should I expect? new masks etc.?
I was one of the lucky newbies. I started with the same mask I wore for titration. It is my primary mask. I did buy a mask off the auction site as a full face back up mask at a good price. I have used it a few times. My next buy will be the new Resmed Quattro FX.
It really depends on your insurance as to how frequently they replace supplies. I get a 2 nasal pillows and 2 filters a month. I get a new hose every 3 months, and new humidifier chamber and complete mask every six months.

Re: what should I expect? new masks etc.?
thanks for your replies.
I think I get a new mask every 6 mos. not sure what else.
I did not know enough to ask a lot of questions in the beginning.
my quattro FF mirage was the 2nd mask used in the titration study. It was MUCH better than the the first one tried, and in fact may be the ONE, but I am not totally convinced yet
