Follow up doc visit ,research

Post by mayondair » Tue Jan 04, 2011 11:52 am

Just got back from a follow up , of course I took a weeks worth of Encore Viewer data, told doc of my last tweak, pointed out my very low AHI (lowest .3), and of my 100% compliance, and my significantly decreased VS & RERA numbers. She actually looked at this stuff, we had a nice chat, she asked if I needed anything, I said no, could change machine myself, felt good, slept well most nights. She said come back in a year unless I had any trouble, didn't see the need for any more sleep tests. She also said she wished all of her patients were as involved and did as well as me. I mentioned the help I got on CPAP talk .com. My doc is at a large university teaching hosp; while waiting for doc I was asked to fill out a research survey, it was obviously geared toward obstacles to PAP therapy, questions about machine management, comfort of mask , bed partners, etc. so when asked about support sources I put down CPAP talk.com. and pointed it out to the survey person. Who knows, maybe someone will find CPAP talk.com and benefit from it . Cheers ! kathy

Good for you. I am so glad you have a cooperative sleep doctor. I can only hope to be so lucky when I finally get my prescription and machine.

I am very happy with this doc, she seems attentive but not wanting unnecessary, expensive ( to my INS) visits . This was a much better experience than with the first doc that I fired. It was very nice to be treated as an informed, reasonable person. Everyone deserves as much.

Wonderful news! Your doc sounds a lot like mine.... I, too, had my data to show him, he was impressed with my knowledge and wished more patients were as pro-acitve.... and doesn't need to see me until next Dec. Empowered patients UNITE!
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

mayondair,
I'm happy you have a Dr. that takes such an active interest. My experience was a little different. The Dr. was more focused on my neuropathy and testing for that, and only seemed to glance for a short time at the ResScan printout of the previous night's data.

As the Dr. got up to leave I had to ask what he thought about the printout and the data...was my therapy going well...according to the data??? He said it looked good and that was the end of the appointment. Unless I make another appointment to ask my questions... I wait 6-months.

I have a long way to go to educate myself on how to read the data. I better get started! My husband jokes that perhaps I know more than the Dr. Hopefully that will be true. As has been pointed out before by many...a knowledgeable patient is an empowered one.
Cindy
