You need to give specific information if you really want help with this issue.

What mask are you using?
What problems are you having?
What mask are you considering?
What is your pressure?
What machine are you using?

I feel for you. But nearly everyone here has also experienced a hard time with a mask. And it is a ***blessing*** when you find one that fits. I started with the nasal mask, switched to the pillows, then to a full face-- which I have used for about a year. I am approaching my two year anniversary on cpap. Don't give up-- you have a lot of people here who know what you are experiencing and are pulling for you.

<<I started with the nasal mask, switched to the pillows, then to a full face>>

I went another step further after trying all of these. I use a total face mask and am finally content. Respironics makes two types, the "Total Face Mask" and the "FitLife". Both cover from below the mouth to the forehead. See this post for details on the FitLife mask, and the postings that follow it for other comments. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=57324&p=539086#p539086

Hello cats. Welcome.
I think a lot of us have tried a number of masks before we settle on one (or two) that really work(s).
There are suggestions for making various masks fit better on this forum, but they are all different.
We can help you better if you let us know what kind of equipment pressure, mask, etc. you have.
You can do this by signing in under user control panel just below the upper left corner of this page, and checking your equipment under profile.

Yes - the dangers are that you either just won't wake up one morning, or that you'll have a stroke, heart attack or some other similar related event. Those are 'known' because they occurred in people who thought bothering to get a well fitted mask was too much trouble.

Just a few that come to mind:
Diabetes
Heart Disease including (but not limited to) heart attack, atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure
Stroke
Gastroesophageal Reflux
Motor vehicle accidents due to falling asleep at the wheel
Death

CPAP can help prevent or lessen the severity of all of the above.

Are you sure you want to quit? If you do, then fine. Go live what is left of the rest of your life until your stroke or heart attack. Make sure your life insurance is paid up and your family knows where the documents are.

If you want help to overcome some discomfort in order to use CPAP to acheive much better health, let us know.
