Taking off the CMS-50e in the night
Taking off the CMS-50e in the night
I'm 3 months into CPAP treatment. I've been collecting O2 data for almost every single day of it. For the past week, I've been waking up to find my CMS-50e taken off, and I think I remember taking it off. (My subconcious is learning. ) Any tips? Tape it in place? Get a CMS-50f? (the one with the little finger probe instead of being like a chip-clip) One exciting thing about the data is that I think the spikes in my heart BPM have stopped. (Possibly those were from the adrenaline my body was producing to force me to wake up and breath.) My most current AHI is 0.6
Re: Taking off the CMS-50e in the night
I run a strip of 1" micropore tape along the bottom of the unit onto the bottom of my finger and then another piece around my finger to make sure the tape stays on the finger. I then put a sock over my hand to help protect it from being dislodged. Has worked for me so far.
I think the instructions advise against wrapping tape around the unit as it might skew the readings.

Change fingers.
The most common reason to push the pulse oximeter, other than having a foreign object on your finger , is that the unit is irritating the skin on the finger. If you frequently change fingers you avoid this. Also, it helps to carefully clean the pad that contacts your skin. I use a very small amount of Dr. Bonners soap in a glass of water and use a paper towel to carefully clean the surfaces.
