Ear Pressure Tip

Post by KimberlyM » Thu Dec 30, 2010 12:38 pm

Someone gave me this tip and it has been helpful so far. First, I should state that I don't use the ramp feature. When you put on your mask, wait for the pressure to rise. When it has reached the correct pressure, put your fingers in your ears and swallow. After that, you can swallow and pressure doesn't build up in your ears. My machine is on auto right now from 6 to 20 and the fluctuations don't seem to cause much pressure after that initial buildup that I remedy with the finger-in-the ear thing. I am lucky that my pressure is low and usually doesn't exceed 11 on auto. I hope this helps someone else!

Thanks, Kimberly, I think that's a really great tip!

Thank you LoQ for commenting. I guess everyone else had already figured it out but me!

Whgy 6-20 setup? Wouldn't 9-14 serve better if average pressure is 11? Just suggesting.

The doctor felt my titration was wrong and set it for 6 to 20 for just two weeks. Then it will be narrowed down, like you suggest.

Well.... I didn't have it figured out and with a touch of a cold the last several nights has been rather a bit of an issue for me. Felt like I was on an airplane landing. Thank you for passing this along.

If, as KimberlyM said, her pressure usually does not exceed 11, the answer is, "No, the machine will react the same on 9 - 20 as on 9 - 14."

I put my fingers as far in my ear as I am comfortable with before I swallow. I hope it helps you like it has me. I feel badly for you having a cold and using CPAP. CPAP is enough of a challenge by itself!
