Pre follow up on teen study
My daughter (the baby of 6 daughters) 19 yrs. old is at her sleep study as we speak. She was scheduled for and overnight then the daytime nap study, (I always forget what you call it). Its 9:30 am and I haven't heard from her yet so I assume the daytime study is underway. I wonder what that means? I only had the night time split study. I can't wait to find out the results. She has been on anti depressants, and ADD meds for years, but always had terrible sleep habits, to the point where she could not graduate. She is a smart and beautiful girl. Shes taking online classes now to get her diploma and will attend a community college in the fall. Sorry for blabbing on, but I am just anxious to hear the results. I'll keep in touch when I hear.

Re: Pre follow up on teen study
I am so glad she agreed to have the study done and I can say as a recently diagnosed person with severe sleep apnea that I never though missing a bit of sleep could have as large an impact on ones life until the past few weeks. I am sure that once you get the results you and her can decide where to go from there. But if something as simple as CPAP is able to very well treat sleep apnea and return the person to normal sleep then I say why not do it! Sure there is the hose and mask to get used to, but this is a small price to pay for the restoration of health.
While I have been waiting for my prescription I have done a great deal of research and also purchased a logging oximiter, and have recorded a number of troubling events due to my sleep apnea. With this data in hand I recently visited my GP and have had my file with the sleep clinic put on an urgent status, but with Xmas I don't expect anything until early January. Looking back I'm sure I've suffered from sleep apnea for 10 years or longer but over the past 6 months it has been getting much worse as by body slowly falls apart. Once I've been on treatment for a few months my GP want to run some tests to see if any of my vital organs have been damaged from the low oxygen levels I experience when sleeping. At 45 I still have a lot of years ahead of me I hope, and your daughter at 19 has many many more years ahead of her so getting to the bottom of things now is really good.
DO learn as much as you can to learn about sleep, sleep apnea and other related conditions, you will find that this may be a large cause of her depression, or at least that it is not helping it in any way. I am sure you will see other things, especially her ability to learn and recall information, that are affected as well.

So far, No Sleep Apnea detected in the overnight study. All results will take 2 to 3 weeks. It was a long night and day. She did fall asleep for 4 out 5 naps. We'll see. I'll let you know when we get official results.
