Help! Facial abrasion and red nose pain

Post by MoonBear » Sun Dec 26, 2010 11:00 am

Hi,

My ff Quattro works very well, but is not abrading skin as well as leaving red bumps on my nose. No leaks, and I have tried the gel fusion and pad a cheek for my nose. I love the sleep quality, but clearly I must has another ff mask to switch off to. Do you wear ff and would like to recommend it? Did you have this problem and figured out a way around it. Thanks for the help, Namaste, MoonBear

I need something between my skin and the mask. I just lay it on some cotton knit fabric, cut around it and cut a triangle in the center for my nose. Once you have a perfect shape, make a pattern.

I have the gel nosepad which helped a lot. then I read the posts about cutting out a "mask liner" from an old tee shirt. I tried that and It works great. i dont even wear the nose pad now and have increased comfort. I have ordered a mask liner from pad a cheek but it hasnt come yet. They look like they have lots of products to increase your comfort with a ff mask

A lot of people rave about Padacheek's product for the Quattro, so you might want to give it a try.

Also, I just posted "I think I've made my peace with the Quattro". You might try my fitting suggestions to see if they work for you--there is absolutely NO pressure on the nose. I'm curious to see if these steps work as well for other people.

If you have a favorite settting for your Quattro now, do something to mark where the straps go and note the dial setting before you try my suggestions, so that you can get your Quattro back the way it is if my suggestions don't work for you.

Lora, your problem sounds similar to mine on this mask. A side effect that a DME should help correct.
My cumulative trouble developed at the top, on the nose bridge: where the soft inner and outer cushions give way to hard plastic. Around day 15 I woke up with a blister-like large swelling in the bridge. The next two nights I tried taping my nose and moving the mask to a different pressure point: only partially successful, with air leakage into the eyes. It took me 4 days to heal the nose skin. Maybe the extra pressure came about in a side-sleeping position.

I understand that the cause is the mask not being custom fitted to the nose anatomy. A few solutions I am looking at:
- fitting of Mirage Quattro: correct size, head gear not too tight, rather let the air cushion do its job, short of leakage into the eyes
- you could try some nose pads to fill in the shape change to the mask frame: RemZzzs, Comfort Care Pads, etc.
- ResMed may soon have an alternate facial mask Mirage Quattro FX for the US market

These are just suggestions I've been given for starting up again. I hope they work.
Moderate-severe OSA, ResMed S9 AutoSet EPR + H5i Humidifier, ResMed Masks: trying Swift FX Nasal Pillow, Mirage Nasal, Mirage Quatro or Quattro FX Full Face

.
ROFLMAO the DME - LOL really? Mine told me to hold it up to my face (not put it on mind you) and told me it couldn't be leaking because she could see that it fit from across the massive desk.
