I bought a second hand Aussie hose as a backup for my (nearly) new Aussie hose. It belonged to the seller's father, who passed away, and I believe he must have been a heavy smoker because the tube, while working, has a bad odor inside it. Basically, what's the best method to wash (and possibly disinfect) an Aussie hose tube?
I usually run soap + water through mine weekly, but not being a smoker and cleaning my own breathing equipment daily means they're reasonably odorless. I've tried cleaning this hose, but the odor's still there. Any advice (apart from not buying 2nd hand hoses)? Thank you

I have an aussie Heated hose also but i bet if you give it a good soaking with Vinegar it will remove the smoke smell. Other than that I suggest you contact the Aussie heated hose maker as to the best way to clean it.
Re: Advice on Cleaning 2nd Hand Aussie Hose
Being an ex-smoker I don't think anything known to man will remove the smell of smoke, except time. You can try and I'm sure you will try many different things, only to mix the smell with some other scents but never completely remove the smell.
Be careful mixing different chemicals during this venture. You might try some mouth washes and/or peroxide at different times of course.
Good Luck and do let us know.
ps. I don't think you can tell the difference between one or twenty cigarettes by the smell

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Re: Advice on Cleaning 2nd Hand Aussie Hose
Hi - thank you for suggestions. I've tried filling the hose with 10% vinegar and water, hanging it up in a "U" shape for 1/2 hr, then rinsing. Seem to help a bit. Didn't seem quite so pungent. I expect the best way to fix it is to use it for a month or two and wash it in 10% vinegar and 90% water until the smell goes.
Re: Advice on Cleaning 2nd Hand Aussie Hose
I have never had the need to get smoke residue out of my hose but I do have a suggestion for cleaning the hose interior. For several years I have occasionally scrubbed out my hose with nylon net doused in Pine-Sol solution. I attach the net into notch at the end of a long dowel rod and scrub from each end of the hose, and then rinse out by flowing warm water through the hose. There is no guarantee of its working with tobacco residues, but it's cheap and worth a try. And this has never damaged the hose interior or left a pine odor after thorough rinsing.

Thank you for the advice, Duke, I'll give it a try (although in Oz I wonder if it's the same as Pine-o-clean).
