The Wierd World of CPAP Masks

Post by cortez356 » Tue Dec 14, 2010 4:06 pm

I was looking around on the net and came up with an interesting mask. Second Wind has it on their web site. It is called the Advantage Nasal mask. What attracted me was the statement that it is ideal for facial hair! I di a little digging and found the mask under a lot of different mfrs. It is marketed by the following: CareFusion, Cardinal Health, Tiara Medical, Viasys Healthcare, Puresom and Sleepnet. A few of those companies are actually the same. Prices were all very close excpt that Sleepnet wanted more than double for the mask! Google displayed a lot of useless info but one link was to the FDA document that Cardinal filed for approval under the Puresom name. That document also mentioned Mirage Vista. I looked up the Mirage and it is a little different. No forehead piece. Uses a special headgear as well. But the actual mask might be the same. As you can see I have too much time on my hands today. However I do have a question: Has anyone ever used the Advantage Nasal Mask??

The Advantage Nasal CPAP Mask from CareFusion incorporates three sealing surfaces on the cushion interior to adapt to facial features and facial hair for a flexible fit and secure seal. This 'mask within a mask' design allows for a secure seal when the patient's mouth opens wider than anticipated.

Someone please explain that last sentence. The patient is going to sleep with his mouth open wide while using a nasal mask?

That's gotta be a copy/paste error since that seems to imply that it can magically fix mouth open leaks. Would that it could...

Anyway, from either the full or the nasal mask description on the CareFusion corporate site, these words don't seem to appear....
