Even I know it snows a lot in Minnesota, and what with global warming we all know the snow is going to get worse.

Sounds like high continuous pressure is needed, or a steel roof

Here's a link that shows the collapse of the dome.

Great link - great pictures.

Just goes to show that outside appearances are no indication of "inner strength".

Note there are two videos to watch -

In another thread:
Laurie1041 wrote:I have been reading that there are problems with the Climateline hose so I check it carefully for any signs of damage every night before using it. It checked out fine until an hour later, I was awakened by a very loud noise and sudden deflation of my mask. The hose seems to have split open very close to the outflow port.
It makes you think maybe the Vikings should have settled for a standard roof instead of getting the ClimateLine heated roof.

PST wrote:Should this really be described as off topic? The Metrodome is a lot like CPAP. Air pumps are used to increase the internal pressure to the point that the roof of the stadium/throat doesn't collapse. One difference is that the Metrodome only uses about 2.5 cm-H2O of pressure, way less than I do, although its flow generator is capable of 7.5 cm-H2O. Obviously Minnesota should have held out for an APAP stadium that would have adjusted automatically to the pressure needs of a snowy environment.

Good one PST!

To state the obvious, had they installed the fully data-capable roof, the data from the software would have given them enough warning to tweak the roof settings and avoid the collapse.
On January 2, 1980, shortly after excavation for the Metrodome had started, bulldozers encountered an immovable force - a 250,000-pound granite rock, believed to have been there for about 11,000 years.
Can one of you bright members tell me where that rock was 11,001 years ago?

I have a vision that we will figure out an easy way to ensure that children develop wide, deep, healthy and attractive jaws and then obstructive sleep apnea becomes an obscure bit of history.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ycw4uaX ... re=related

Most likely somewhere else, but I may be taking that for granite. john

A couple of feet north of where it was found in 1980. Carried south by the most recent glacial advance in North America, it got dropped as the melting edge moved north. It's a little bit of Canada far from home, a gift of the ice sheet to the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes, much like the lakes themselves are.
