weird sensation first night with Resmed 9

Hi,

I'm new to this group and hope somebody has some suggestions. I've been recently diagnosed with moderate OSA and fitted with the Resmed 9 at 8-12cm and its most least invasive mask. The first night (last night) was horrible, as expected. The mask, I think, I'll eventually get used to, but it's these puffs of air that emanate from the back of my throat on exhalations and make gurgly, puffy noises, that drive me insane and keep me wide awake. The puffs find their way out through my lips. They're completely random, sometimes frequent, other times not and have nothing to do with changing my tongue placement or anything. They happen when I'm completely still. I eventually gave up and turned the machine off, but I'll try again tonight. Is this common and is it possible that it'll eventually go away or I'll get used to it? Any adjustments I could make?

Any suggestions appreciated...

I think I know what you mean - had the same sort of thing happen a few times since I started xPAP therapy - I have an S9 now, myself.

Its really nothing more then getting used to the machine, the pressure, etc. Getting used to how to keep from allowing the air pressure to backfeed into your mouth.

Heh...I figured out that if I hold my throat just so, the air comes in my nose, and out my mouth, and I can whistle for about an hour straight... Not that this is terribly therapeutic.

Once you get more used to the machine, it should go away.

Can you be more precise about the mask you're using? If it's not a full-face mask, then your therapy air is escaping and doing you no good. Also, do you know if this is happening when your pressure changes? Tell us more so we can help more; you CAN make this work!
