Sleep Study Tonight

Post by sleeplessinaz » Fri Dec 03, 2010 8:02 am

Tonight I go for a sleep study. It has been 3 years since I started the hose. I lost weight, got diabetes under control and now I don't seem to be sleeping as well as I was--:(. Tonight is a "titration" study to see if my pressure of "7" needs changed. They told me not to bring my mask or anything which is wierd. I am packing my Swift LT for her and my FX in my bag anyhow just in case!!! LOL!

I usually fall asleep in 5 to 10 min. but I don't stay asleep--I just hope I can get to sleep once I am checked in and wired up! I will pack an Ambian --just in case---as this is a new place that I have not been before.

They did not tell me to bring my card out of my machine or anything--thought that was wierd too. They wanted me to send them my prior sleep study records but I couldn't locate them--just as well --I want them to tell me what is happening and not copy notes from the last one.

Carrie

Best wishes for a good night's titration! and some sleep, too...
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

Thanks everyone. It has been 3 years since I was first diagnosed. I have not been sleeping well again so my dr. ordered another one to see what's going on. It was a beautiful sleep center in Scottsdale---AZ. With large Tempurpedic adjustable beds, flat screens on the wall..., my own private bathroom---it was awesome!! Felt like I was in an upscale Hotel on vacation. BUT--I did not sleep very well however as you have wires and goo in your hair, on your neck, face and legs--plus they are recording you on a night vision camera. It is hard to roll around and get comfortable with all the wires as I am a side sleeper. My dr. will have a report in 2 weeks so I will see what might need changed on my present CPAP machine that I have now ot maybe get switched to an APAP.

They say since I have lost about 20 pounds the pressure on my machine might need adjusted. I HATE not being able to sleep. I sleep but I awake during the night for no reason---that is called... "arousals"--:( I don't want to resort to sleeping pill--UGH. The tech told me this morning that I did have lots of arousals during the night--:( I don't feel rested this morning either. She said she upped my pressure a bit but did not tell me what it was actually. I don't know how they get good readings when it is only one night in an unfamiliar place.

Carrie, hope this study yields some answers that help you sleep better. Couldn't help but think of the recent thread on the interview between Drs. Park and Krakow about bi-paps and those with fragile sleep. If the study doesn't identify a cause, you may want to revisit that info, especially if you're already getting a machine upgrade.

Have you already reviewed any meds you are on for a possible side effect of sleep disturbance? And no signs of limb movements?

Hopefully a simple pressure change will be all you need to sleep well again. Let us know. And congrats on that 20 lbs.

Dear Carrie,

I thought that my sleep center was fancy but yours really is! I did not have a flat screen or a Tempur pedic mattress, so you were very lucky. That said, I know that it is still hard to sleep being all wired up and having a camera on you the whole night. Please, keep us posted on the results of your study and what they change your pressure to, if they do.

With warmest regards,

Jersey Girl

Thanks kteague --the next twenty pounds will surely be a struggle!! LOL! Esp. during the holidays. The Tech did tell me that I don't any any leg movements at all ---but did have lots of arousals, which of course I had already suspected. I will check on the meds I am on to see if any have anything to do with not staying asleep --good idea!!

The tech tried out a Bi-Pap on me as I asked about it and I wanted to see what that felt like. I was on it for a few minutes and did not like it. I am only a pressure of 7--so it felt wierd to me to have to breathe out so hard against the machine. I was on straight CPAP all night with my SWIFT LT for her on.

I will find out in a few weeks what the results are of the study and will let you and Jersey Girl know if they change my pressure at all etc.

Thanks, guys.

Carrie
