Popinka,
Go to their website and look on the "contact us" page. They have a toll free number to call 8am till 10pm CST they'll tell you all about how to handle it. There was also a dicussion thread about this earlier. I'll see if I can find it and post a link for you.

Thanks Wader, the link seems to give a lot of insight into what I may be up against if I order in U.S.
I discovered http://www.cpapdeals.com which has a Canadian site. I want the respironics c-flex autopap and it is $1400 CDN. Not super, but no more expensive than the obligatory care package from my medical supply company. I trust you guys more than them anyhow! Trick I think is going to be to get my doctor to agree to a prescription with an adequate range of pressures --- any experience with this?

Popinka, if you intend to take over some management of your own treatment, and if what you intend to do is tweak the pressure, it won't matter what pressure range the doctor puts on the prescription for an autopap. You'll be able to easily change the low and high pressure yourself....if someone tells you how to do that (and someone will ) or if you get the clinician's manual. I'd strongly suggest you get the software for your autopap, so you can look at your own overnight data at home anytime you wish.
I was going to go this route but decided against this due to warranty issues.
In the event of a defective unit, I am more comfortable bringing it to a local dealer and renting a replacement, rather than sending a $1500.00 piece of medical equipment through a courrier (plus all the fees, etc.).
This obvioulsy can be done the same day, while the other option can not.
Also, if my unit dies while on warranty, I get a replacement free of charge while mine is in the shop. This will prevent me from having to go without CPAP.
Speaking from my experience, I would recommend that you call at least a couple of places. The first one wanted to charge me $150.00 for a "titration", which the other guy (who I eventually bought from) did for free. (It takes about a minute to push the buttons..)
Plus a good dealer will take the time with you to show you how to use the unit and should be willing to let you try several masks. Find out if you can bring the mask back after 2-3 weeks if you don't like it. Mine did and it saved me the cost of buying several masks before finding one I liked. You can't get this type of service via mail order.
If money is the only concern, than CPAP.COM is probably the best option. If you have private insurance, it should cover the cost of the machine. My insurance covered it completely, and I don't have the best plan out there.
Just my two cents.

Canadians ordering from CPAP.com
Hi Clownshow,
I am getting my first Xpap machine (maybe today!) and have chosen to order it from a local supplier primarily for future servicing issues.
However I think masks are a different story and intend to order from CPAP.com. I have never ordered on line except for a wedding gift delivered to a USA address. Can you please elaborate a little on the process regarding your mask.
For example :
- how long did it take to get it?
- How and when did you pay for it, ie credit card?
- were there any delays at the border?
- were there any customs processing fees?
- how was it shipped, ie normal CPAP.com shipping process?
- anything else I should know before ordering online?
Also - I am getting a Respironics Auto C-flex and the local supplier will not provide the clinician's manual nor will they sell me the software and card reader. My understanding is the unit comes with a smart card.
If I order the software and card reader from CPAP.com will it work on my new unit?
Has anyone, particularly Canadians, run into any trouble with their MD's or suppliers by circumventing their rules and process when it comes trying to monitor your own progress independantly?
Appreciate any help - still learning I'm a bit of a Dodo on this whole CPAP acquisition issue and I haven't even started to use it yet!

hi unclebob,
You asked:
Normally the clinician's manual (for this machine it's called, "Home Care Provider Setup Instructions") comes with the machine. However, as you said, the DME (local supplier of Durable Medical Equipment) does confiscate that booklet, giving you only the user's manual. I don't know if cpap.com sells the home care provider's booklet separately. I may be mistaken, but I don't think that booklet is in with the software - I think it's only packed in a machine's box. You could call cpap.com's toll free 800 support number and ask if it's possible to purchase (or get) the Home Care Provider Setup Instructions booklet separately.
I think you're going to like that machine a lot. It's the one I use now - I love it. Ordered it from cpap.com, so I did receive the Home Care Provider booklet too. I already had the software since I was using another Remstar Auto that did not have the C-Flex feature.
You asked:
Yes, if you order the Encore Pro software and card reader from cpap.com, it will work on your locally purchased Respironics Auto with C-Flex. And, yes, you are correct that your machine from the local provider will come with a "smart card" already stuck in its side. As you probably already know, you don't have to have a prescription to order the software online. Also - I am getting a Respironics Auto C-flex and the local supplier will not provide the clinician's manual nor will they sell me the software and card reader. My understanding is the unit comes with a smart card.
