New Units on Craig's List

Post by cortez356 » Mon Nov 08, 2010 7:58 pm

In my quest for used CPAP I have come across various new machines for sale. Some are probably as stated: Someone bought a unit and did not use it for all kinds of reasons. But there are some ads that seem suspicious. Lots of advertising like: Free programming, Free delivery, Free Mask and more. These ads seem to appear in areas with large populations. The prices are tempting. I wont post any names or the prices but they are some of the top rated machines and sometimes half of the internet prices. I am a businessman and by nature suspicious. The line the sellers use is that they ( all have been women) have a friend who is a DME and thus buys in bulk allowing them to give great pricing. I wonder how can a CPAP be sold for those ridiculous prices. Here are my thoughts: Could be a scam where you Paypal the $$ and get nothing. If you have ever made a claim with Paypal a refund could take months or never happen. Maybe they ship an empty box? Maybe the units are used? Or they could be "hot". Supposedly you get a proper receipt and the DME will honor the warranty. If any of you are familiar with the Gypsies known as The Travelers this smells like one of their deals. I keep wondering how much profit can there be on a CPAP Machine? Has anyone on this forum ever bought from this type of seller? I have decided to pass and deal with a legitimate online retailer.

Meet in person...see machine ....make sure it works.

Apparently there is an excellent mark up on the price. These could be units which were returned too. Learn how to check the hours of use.

I would only purchase from craigslist IN PERSON. Inspect and try the machine. I have purchased a used CPAP that way.

My local Craigslist for the last few months has had an abundance of cpap offerings that are suspiciously similar in wording. I'm guessing they are from a dealer unloading returns, and passing them off as private sales. Just not curious enough to play sleuth. I agree about buying after checking it out. I've made a couple excellent bi-level purchases on CL, and they really were by private owners. The deals are out there, but I don't know about warranty issues. If it is a dealer selling on the sly, they'll want no part of any evidence they sold it to you. Seems to me the warranty should be per machine, not per owner, but someone who knows can address that.

I got mine on Craigs list. It had 0 hours. I went to the mans home to pick it up. I turned it on and tested it there. He lived in a very upscale older home in a very nice neighborhood. His story was that a lot of machines are donated to charity and he worked for this charity and they needed money for the charity. I don't know anything else but I got a very good buy and I am happy.

I used craigslist and bought brand new unit -- but did it face to face, insisted on turning on machine, checking hours, etc.

I ordered a new S9 this morning from an online retailer. Small discount but those others worried me! If I could have bought face to face there would be no risk.
