Which machines have both CFLEX and AFLEX capability?

OK. I'm confused. I've spent hours on his board and thought I've reached a point of understanding, then find a post with something new...so, here I go again...

I've read a machine with both CFLEX and AFLEX is recommended. It appears a System One Auto CPAP Machine with AFLEX has both modes. Are there any others? I had thought about an S-9 AutoFlex, but the specs don't mention dual capabilities.

The Sleep lab has recommended a CFlex for me (that's all I know). I'd like to avoid resistance from my Dr in prescribing the System One Auto with AFLEX and will show him it's multi-compatible. Earlier, I was going to ask for an S9 Autoflex but don't see where it also has Cflex capability.

Does the S9 Autoflex do both as well?

Auto adjust machines can run in either Auto mode or Cpap mode....thus A-Flex and C-Flex! The Intellipap AutoAdjust w/Smartflex runs the flex in both auto and cpap modes. I don't know about the S9...those that use that machine will be by to help you.....however, I believe the ResMed calls it EPR so it may be available in both auto and cpap modes with that name.

CFLEX and AFLEX are specific to Respironics and Phillips Respironics machines

equivalent is:
EPR for Resmed machines

SMARTFLEX for Devillibis Intellipap machines

This advertising copy from Respironics is a study in obfuscation. What the heck does it mean???

What I get is that when you run the autopap in CPAP mode, the pressure relief on exhalation (EPR) is called "C-Flex", when you run it in auto mode, the EPR is called "A-Flex" but basically they do the same thing (someone please correct me if if I'm wrong). You get exhalation pressure relief.

"Maintaining effective therapy at minimal pressures" makes sense for APAP which can adjust the inspiratory pressure according to your need, but since CPAP is at a fixed pressure it makes no sense at all for CPAP mode.

As for what "C-Flex Plus technology" is, I have NO clue and I've never seen a satisfactory explanation. Meanwhile having the "C-Flex Plus" terminology on Pro machines makes it all the more difficult for a newbie to understand if he or she is getting a System One or M Series PLUS machine with no data or not. Deliberate deceit on the part of Respironics and DME's if you ask me.

Bottom line is that the Respironics machines give pressure relief during exhalation and calls it Aflex/Cflex depending on which mode you're in. It's called EPR regardless of which ResMed machine you are using, and Smartflex for Devillibis. I'm not sure what it's called (or if it even exists) on Fisher and Paykel machines. F& P machines supposedly have new technology called "sensawake" that lowers pressure when you are awake--I'm not sure if this is useful at all, since when I'm awake if the pressure is too low I feel like I'm suffocating.

Aflex is an advanced version of Cflex. You can run either one but not both at the same time. It does not matter if yhou are in CPAP or auto mode--you choose the flex you want.
