Which APAP for travel could replace my S8 Elite II

Hi

I have a S8 Elite II auto with humidifier for traveling purposes. I need to use the Aussie heated hose if I don't want to have big rain out inside my Headrest nasal pillows.

The problem is that I find too heavy all the stock I need to transport; the machine + humidifier, the heated hose with it's transfo, the extension cords, etc. I have shoulder problems.

I would like to find another machine with rain out control.

Well if you are looking for the heated tubing than look at the Resmed S9 series or possibly the new F&P Icon series. The resmed S9 has some other cool features unrelated to humidification, but F&P is well known for creating great humidifiers. To be honest I really like Resmed but the new S9's have had some major design problems. We have had to send back about 10+ machines because of humidifier defects. So if you are buying through a local dealer that will help you with warranty issues than go for it but you may want to check out the F&P Icon series. They do not have EPR or Flex on their machines but it is all one piece which can be good for travel plus it has the heated tubing like the S9.

I don't know that the S9 will be any easier to travel with, since the machine/humidifier are also separate units. Additionally, the S9 has an external power brick which isn't travel friendly either.

I don't need EPR or Flex, I'm more than happy with a ramp and that's what I have been using, I tried EPR and Flex and frankly I don't like it better than the ramp.

A S9 is not in my options. I know about all the problems with the hose, etc, etc, etc from Resmed. I really don't want to buy anything from Resmed if that's possible, I live in Canada... If I found a replacement for my S8 I will sell it, even if it has only less than 300hrs I'm tired of fighting with the water, maybe I'm spoiled because of my lovely PR System One I would even consider to buy another System One to travel if I don't find something smaller.

I need an APAP easy to transport, with rain out control, the less heavy possible, not a Resmed, not noisy.

but its a straight CPAP. I don't see an APAP version. I have a Fisher/Paykel 254 CPAP as a backup, and I like that their machines have the blower/humidifier all in one package.

The new Fisher/Paykel ICON series has an APAP version with a heated hose and integrated humidifier, not sure if they are for sale yet:

One thing you can do to lighten your load is to not take the aussie heated hose. Instead, use a regular hose, with cover, and a reptile heater as others on this formum have noted. The reptile heater is powered by 120 vac (it plugs straight into an electrical outlet) and does not need a power transformer. You might want to also include a lamp dimmer to allow you to control the heat output from the reptile heater - probably still lighter than the aussie hose with it's transformer.

Also: I assume you are referring to travel by air. When traveling, do you carry your xpap through the terminal? I don't. What I do is wrap the handle of the xpap's carry case around the handle of my carry-on roller bag. Thus the xpap is secured to the top of the roller bag. This way, I don't have to carry it through the terminal or onto the aircraft.

You also might want to change your carry case for the xpap to something that is easier to carry. Some specialized travel cases (e.g. for notebook computers) are designed with a sleeve to fit over the handle of a roller bag.

Yes I'm speaking about traveling by air. I attach the cpap to the carry-on luggage or I find a cart but that's not the worst case.

When I travel we like rent a car and go all around different places. That means you need to load and unload the car very often. We like to stay at bed & breakfast and in most of the cases you need to take the stairs to the 2nd floor (if you are lucky ) and that means you have your luggage + the XPAP .

It could be a very good idea to change the XPAP bag to a roller bag, if I don't find a suitable XPAP.

Selling the S8 wouldn't be a big problem because of the prices here, you know. I'm even considering to buy a second PR System One to travel with. I don't want to risk to broke the one I use at home and then get in trouble

To buy a reptiline + dimmer ?? I don't think so. Before buy the Aussie hose $$$$ I considered that idea and I found that would cost very expensive and I was afraid to forget the repti ON and burn up the hose . To avoid that I need to buy a time, more dollars
