New user, need help.

Post by Fredforest » Sat Oct 30, 2010 5:10 pm

Hi all,

I've been quietly observing the great teamwork on this forum. I would like so help with understanding my data. From my interpretation its decent but I'm a bit worried about my AHI. It stays around 7-12 every night. I feel pretty rested and sleep better then before cpap, but am wondering if I need a BIPAP for all the centrals.

A bit of history, I had a home sleep study and was prescribed the apap but the docs statement on the study said its possible that i may develop "complex"
sleep apnea due to the percocet/methodone I'm on for cronic nerve pain from a motorcycle accident.

Opinions please?

Fred,
How long have you been on CPAP, and have you had a follow-up with your doctor or your DME? If it's been about two weeks or more and you haven't had any follow-up since going on the pap, you might be better off calling the doctor. CPAP can cause an elevation in central apneas, which could be why your AHI is as high as it is, or you could be at the wrong pressure and still having OSAs. Can you access the data to determine if you are having OSAs or CAs? Complex apnea is treated by BiPap.

Fredforest, this is almost an exact repeat of the following post:

viewtopic/t56864/New-userhelp-with-diagnosis.html

Why would you repeat the post under a different username? Did the first answer not suit you? Help me understand why you would register as two different users hunting for an answer to the same question.

Actually the fact we have a mean-spirited troll on the forum does not mean we have to more or less careful than otherwise. We are dealing with human beings, and we always have to careful when responding to them.

Even the most suspected post from a newbie deserves a careful, well thought out answer, which is what JohnBFisher supplied when he responded to "donkeyboy". And "donkeyboy" and was very thankful for the reply he got.

Let's behave as though we suppose "fredforest" and "donkeyboy" are the same person whose bad memory kept him from remembering where he posted what and under which name. Let's behave as though that were true -- and let's not get into discussions of "is this true or not" s"is this a troll post or not" since arguing about that will waste our time and energy, and lead us nowhere fast.

Let's let our leg be pulled, because if we mistake a newbie in need for a troll, we will do the kind of harm that only that troll wants to inflict on others.

And "donkeyboy", if "fredforest" is impersonating you, rest assured that he's been doing impersonations from the day he first joined this forum. He is terribly upset that we saw through him, don't want him around and don't appreciate him, and he's trying to throw the kind of tantrums he always does under those conditions.... if you, donkeyboy, are in real need of help, chance are you'll get it here.

Wise words, indeed. Words to live by. As I've noted to others, even if the poster is a troll, others reading the forum need the answer. And that's the important thing. To try to help one another. ozij, thank you for your request for us to moderate our replies!

O, You know, that makes sense to me. Even if we are unknowingly replying to a troll, if we're also giving good information then it will be read by many others who may need that help. That's the purpose of this forum. I'm too comfortable here to start getting "neurotic" about these trolls although I'm glad Mars is updating us on the possibilities so we can keep our antennas up if need be.
