PR System One vs. M series Auto- opinions wanted

Post by angela62 » Wed Oct 20, 2010 3:18 pm

I have a Respironics M series auto and it is my first machine. I was diagnosed last year with mild apnea and my test showed I had mostly RERA's and hypopneas and no apneas. I like the M series auto but have been thinking about getting a backup machine. I am thinking about getting a PR System One Auto as a backup as there are many available at the auction site.

For those who have used the M series auto and have switched or are also using a PR System One, do you feel the PR System One works as well, worse, or better than the M series? I use the C flex feature of the M series auto and my average pressure is 9.2 cm with a 90% of 11. I understand that the PR System One sends out "air puffs" and I was wondering how users find this feature affects sleep.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I started off with the M series. It was a good machine I thought. My husband has the System One and I took a nap with it. It is a lot quieter and it seems to be a lot more gentle if that is the correct way to describe it. It is the only word that fits for me. It is a great machine.

I have both an M Series Auto and a PR System One Auto. I have a city residence (where I am on weekdays) and a country residence where I spend most weekends; I keep the M Series Auto in one residence and the PR System One in the other. Thus, on average I switch apap machines on a weekly basis. This is a good basis for comparison of the two.

Both apaps run at 7-12 with aflex at 2.

Theraputic differences between the two apaps are few, and for the most part are very subtle.
- PR system one is quieter; it's humidifier uses less water because it uses it more efficiently; if you hold your breath, it will deliver what some have called a "puff" of air to test for an obstruction (much has been written on cpaptalk about this feature; IMHO, its not bothersome and normally it's not even noticeable).
- M Series is a little noisier

If you like the therapy of the M Series, then you will like that of the PR System One.

I have one complaint about the PR System One and that is the carry case. It's unsuitable for air travel. PR should provide a stronger back that has more padding and a more useful layout.

Why not use the System One as your primary and keep the M Series as you backup?
I'm workin' on it.

I have been seeing where everyone seems to be complaining about the bag. My husbands bag seems to be very well made and I have no complaints. I like it better than the old bag. I don't understand why the complaints.

I upgraded to the System One Auto from the M Series Auto in March I think it was.

As someone else said, I find it quite a bit quieter although I was never bothered by the M Series. Someone also said the air delivery is genter, softer. That's how I would describe it as well.

The humidifier has a larger water chamber and handles humidity in a different way (adapts to the humidity in the room). This is also a big improvement to me.

I had to buy the Encore Viewer 2.0 software because I like monitoring my sleep and the card is different. That's a plus as well. The machine uses a SD memory card and it can be read with any memory card reader. I use the one on my printer. The M Series had to have a special card reader because it uses a Smart card ( looks like a credit card if you don't have it).

Encore Viewer 2.0 software will read both cards though. You need the special card reader if using the M Series (say if you kept it for backup) and just the memory card reader for the System One card.

The System One also shows RERAs in the data and you say you have a lot of those, If you get the software and monitor you will have a better idea about what is happening with the System One.

If you upgrade, I think you should definitely use the System One auto for your main machine and keep the M Series for backup.

Those look like great machines on the auction site and the seller has 100% feedback. I already have a backup System One now ( got it on the auction site) or I would be bidding now!
