mask ports?

Post by helpful1 » Wed Oct 13, 2010 5:07 pm

my machine lost pressure awhile back but I think it's the mask? It has two ports on the sides of the lower part of the mask and I was leaving them open (they have little caps) but there is another port where the mask attaches to the tube and no caps for that one. Should the two side ones be open or closed and do you know what they are for? Thanks. Don't know which model it is it came with the machine.

Those are probably oxygen ports. They should be closed, unless you are receiving oxygen through them.

Is it a bunch of holes? If so, that's a vent, and it should never ever be closed or blocked. Or it might be an anti-asphyxia port, in which case, you should also not block it.

You should find out what kind of mask you have. You may be able to find it here: cpap.com list of masks

Thanks, LoQ. Those must be oxygen ports and I left them open because they came that way. Weird thing is it seemed to have good pressure at first then lost it. But it's been awhile since I used it. I'll check out the masks on cpap.com and see if I can find mine. Thanks again.
